We would have drafted Shazier last year @16 and our LB situation is still up in the air and are injury prone.I would watch out for these guys in the first and also in the next 2 rds.

1)Shaq thompson

2)Perryman

3)Paul dawson(TCU)-pet cat rd 2

4)Eric kendricks. rd 2

Thompson is a special rare player. It would shock me if he made it down that far as well. Perryman is good, but I think I could find 27 players in this draft a little better.

Dawson is a player that deserves more publicity and if we traded out of the first into the top of the second, he would be a real option.

Perryman is a GREAT MLB. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him go in rd 1.

If they plan on keeping two of Mo, Durant and Carter, than I'd rather them draft one in the middle rounds. Stephone Anthony perhaps?

I don't see us taking a LB. That might be the deepest position on the team right now. I'd be shocked but I've been shocked before.

"Deep" but with question marks. Carter and Durant would have to be re-signed and would cost money, same for McClain. Lee is an injury issue always.

I get that there will be a sense of security in numbers, but if Carter goes, we might have interest just as we did with Shazier last draft.

Our LB's are somewhat up in the air...

McClain- Free agent and still a wild card. Will the injuries keep happening or a fluke? Can he keep his head on straight? Very scary to give this guy any kind of significant money.
Lee- Coming back but can't be relied on what so ever at this point.
Durant- FA and also injury prone...may be back if very cheap
Carter- FA...never found a consistent fit in Marinelli's D. Probably not back
Hitchens- Will have 1 of the starting spots...although he did seem to be at least dinged up all the time too.

That's a fair point but honestly, I just don't see it. I don't think the team will count on all of these LBs being injured again next year and you still have Hitchens, who is really coming along. I think we will lose at least one of these LBs so there will need to be somebody brought in, in that event, but I don't see it being in the 1st round. We'll see.

Assuming we bring back all the LBs, which I hope we do, even Rolando, LB will be our deepest position on Defense.

And the exact reason I don't see us going LB at 27. I understadnw e had Shazier on our radar last year but that was pre RoMc and now Durant and Carter look keepable.

I'm not enamored whatsoever with our LBs. There really isn't one guy you can count on to be a quality starter. Lee and McClain have durability issues. Carter is so inconsistent and I question his instincts. I'm not a huge fan of Durant and he couldn't stay on the field either. Hitchens is a try hard guy but I think he lacks ability. I don't want him starting.

LB is a need, IMO. Unless you want to count on guys who have never proven they can be counted on.

We would have taken shazier before the Sean Lee injury, the FO is basically saying they don't trust Lee to stay healthy pre acl tear.

Broaddus wasted time in his first draft show talking about a first round LB (in fairness to BB, he didn't think it would happen). We're going to sign two of our three available guys (Durant and McClain), get Lee back, and maybe add a replacement for Carter in the mid to late rounds, and that'll be that. As it should be. We need multiple DLs and another DB a lot more that we're going to need another LB that wasn't on the team already this season.

I'd like to see another LB brought in. Hitchens, strangely enough, is the only one who has really been reliable

I'm officially beating the drum for Max Valles.

I haven't really watched Thompson enough to form an opinion yet, but here is what GBN is saying about where he'll be drafted:
___________________________________________________________________

With his contributions on offense and defense generating headlines, some draft pundits projected [Shaq] Thompson to go high in the first round. However, two teams we've spoken to say that they are grading Thompson as a day-two pick.

Thompson is a Will (weak side) linebacker for a 4-3 defense, but isn't as good of a prospect as Lavonte David, who was a second-round pick. After asking a few teams, they felt that Thompson was worthy of a top-100 selection. One scouting director said, "I agree with you, not in Lavonte David category, but will get drafted in the second or third based on athletic ability. Shaq is a 4-3 Will linebacker." We followed up with a general manager of a team that could use Thompson, and is interested in him. He also felt that Thompson was a second- or third-rounder.
