Everyone can't stand the kicker. I can't, but they are part of the game. Rackers lost the game last night or at least was part of the reason the Cards lost.

I have read and heard in the media on they could not believe that he missed a chip shot. It got me to thinking, which is always a bad thing. What is a chip shot? His attempt was from 41 yards. I don't consider a 41 yard attempt a chip shot at all. To me anything less than 30 yards is a chip shot. Anything from 30 to 40 yards is a makeable kick, but I don't think the odds are as good as a chip shot. Anything over 40 takes some work. I think you are lucky if you can get a kicker to hit any kick over 50 yards with regularity. My opinion is based on kicks from the middle of the field. Once you line up on the hash marks, the kicks become just a little more difficult.

Now I am not trying to defend Rackers or any kicker. I think Rackers' attempt was more difficult than any that Cortez or Cundiff missed last season. I just don't take for granted that a kicker will be automatic under the best of conditions. So when the game is on the line, the offense needs to work even harder to put the kicker in the best position possible. I guess I kind of see it as a negative when you are counting on your kicker to win games. He is the last one I would count on.

with kickers the way they are i think under 30 should be automatic and good coaches should'nt assume anything much longer than that. racker has been good, but 41 yds is no chip shot. but then again when the game is on the line is when the real players step up. gotta feel bad for the cards though. i found myself cheering for them. that ones gotta hurt

Missing the kick was big ,but the conservative play calling after they were up by 20 in my opinion was the cause.
I hate it when a kicker misses the game winner ,it puts all the emphasis and blame on him instead of the whole team who put him in that position.

I dont get why people "cant stand" kickers. What exactly do they do to warrant that attitude? It isnt their fault the founding fathers of american football made the rules as they did and named the game after the two positions who mix it up the least.
