Ok. I know some will jump on this pro and con.

I would like to take a different approach though.

Reply to this thread as if you were one of the offensive coaches .... In a WW(insert coaches initials here)do?

It could even be an offensive coach from a different team.

We have enough fan opinion....

What do you think an offensive coach can plan or scheme to not only make DMF successful but to resurrect a career that started in the dumps?

Having better offensive minds, a better organization and a better supporting cast has to give Darren some sort of chance to be the player many believed he could be coming out of the draft yes?

Think about this... If we drafted him in 2008, he would be our 6-7th year starter.

If I am an offensive coach I am going to coach them all, let all 4 compete for the job and let the best man win instead of trying to fixate on one and wring my hands..

It's an open job. I thought most here would be happy RWilliams will now be given an opportunity to not only get a roster spot, but compete for a starting job. But a lot here are obsessed we didn't draft the shiny new rb toy. McFadden, Randle, Williams all are gonna fight for that starting spot. Should be interesting.

The thread is about DMF only.
The offensive app orca for him only.

If I'm Lenihan, I use DMC as the nickel RB where he can excel as a pass catcher and in blitz pickup, while limiting his carries to preserve him. He's not Reggie Bush in terms of speed but Lenihan can use DMC like he did Bush in Detroit with similar production. 13-15 carries and 4-5 receptions each game.

I'd try to get him in space as much as I could.

I'd make RB screens an oft-used part of the playbook.

From what I have read- the guy is a decent protector of the QB in pass blocking. That's pretty big...
I believe Linehan is going to give this guy a real shot, barring future acquisitions. We may be hearing about a lot of screens in Training Camp to this guy.
That's where he may shine with a mobile OL and a good QB delivering the ball.

DMC may just be the starter going into the season folks... better hope for the best.

It doesn't matter because Ryan Williams will be our starting RB next year. McFadden will spell him and Randle won't make the team.

Could very well happen. We just have zero clue yet. We're still a loooooooooooong way off and things can and will happen to change the landscape between now and Game 1.

That can be certain.

Randle played to well last year to just say he won't make the team. Unless it's all about his off field stuff.

It is. If he had no off field "things" going on- you know the board mindset would be much, much different.

It has everything to do with his off field stuff. He simply isn't a reliable person. You can't give someone like that the starting job or even a roster spot IMHO.

I'd study what Arkanses did with McFadden and look to utilize some of that.

Obviously McFadden gives you speed unlike anyone we've had here recently.

I do think we rely much more on a rotation next year but that we could become even more explosive because of it.
If teams are going to stack the box to stop our run I think it makes a great deal of sense to put in big play guys who can punish you if they get past that first 8. .

It'd be quite fun to be the running game coordinator.
I'd set up packages for all the guys and let hot play determine who gets the carries.

This approach may make the most sense. Then again his biggest adjustment to life in Dallas, at least initially, may be indecision due to seeing so many choices of running lanes. You gotta remember, a high percentage of his carries in Oakland he faced stacked boxes behind below average o-lines and consequentially led the league in plays where the defense made initial contact behind the LOS.
