Since succumbing to the injury he's watched rookie Ezekiel Elliott take the world by storm as he continues to lead the NFL in rushing with 1,392 yards and 12 touchdowns -- breaking several records in the process.
And McFadden could do nothing more than sit back and watch.
"It's one of those deals where I had to just take the back seat," he said.
"Whenever my time comes for it, I'm going to be ready."

How the Cowboys will use McFadden going forward remains to be seen, but both head coach Jason Garrett and owner Jerry Jones have already placed an expectation on him helping out special teams. The 1,000-yard rusher just a year removed even admitted himself he's not seen any snaps at the running back position in practice as of yet, per Cowboys insider Mike Fisher.

Excellent blocker and can make a big play when it's blocked well. Excellent receiver.

He will get his chances right away. If you're going to give Zeke a few breathers, I like DMac anywhere on the field and doing the blocking on 3rd downs; I prefer Morris on the goal line or short yardage, and I prefer getting Zeke out there for most of the other running plays; plus, we need to bring back the damn screen pass that he took to the house early this season.

I have a feeling Zeke is hitting a wall and fading away .. hence the reduces carries that last few weeks and bringing Mac to carry some of the load to help freshen up Zeke

I am glad to have him back in the fold, I think he can give this offense a boost, but I do already miss Jackson(strange considering I only saw him in pre season), pet cat I guess. Still run DMC is a different type of back than Zeke or Alfred, we shall see.

The Cowboys seriously need to reset and reload all the running backs behind Zeke.

Big data shows that running backs start to decline--even hitting a cliff around age 27, 28.*

McFadden is 29. Morris is 28. Dunbar is "only" 26 but he doesn't show anything. He can't break tackles. He's not big enough to block well...and post-injury, he no longer show elite speed and elusiveness.

They need to hit it with some late draft picks and undrafted free agents.

I.E. 83 yards in Pittsburgh that deflated Steelers Nation.

I'll say one thing for DMC -- he's got a real pro's attitude. Instead of being bitter about his lengthy hiatus, he's ready and willing to contribute. That's worth something on any team. I believe he was activated for a reason -- he does too many things well not to take advantage of them.

Yeah there's no evidence to really support that assertion.

I tend to think the Cowboys were unimpressed w/him and he is, in fact a JAG.

I don't quite understand why guys on this forum are so worked up over that. Late draft picks often don't pan out.

He didn't do a lot in preseason.

The only reason I'd be worked up about releasing Jackson is because they didn't release Dunbar. Otherwise I hear ya.
