Maybe he means 1,000 yards receiving?

I was talking about combined rushing and receiving yards to get to a 1000. There is no way he could get a 1000 yards rushing or a 1000 yards receiving when he has only got over 1000 yards combined once in his career.

The term on the wrong side of 30 is so overused by our fanbase it is disgusting. If the man keeps in good shape and diets well than he increases his shelf life regardless.

He has been great as a scatback. He is a very skilled niche players who is hard as heck to defend against. Always has been.

There comes a time in every players career that he starts declining. Usually the decline has started by that age for RBs. Sure, there can be an exception every now and then, but Dallas is not one player away from being a Super Bowl contender. Sproles would be a gamble at this point in his career and the last thing Dallas needs is another contract with a player at the tail end of his career. I have always liked Sproles and wanted him in Dallas, but not at this stage of his career. I hope Dallas considers themselves in a youth movement and don't sign any older players.

Not a fit for Dallas. Although I think he could help a contending team with a good QB. I was thinking the packers but they have 2 young running backs. How about Denver?

Why did we even pick Randle? Nothing about him really excites me, even his highlight vid was boring

We picked Randle because we were looking for a Murray clone. Not a special back in any way.

Good complimentary player but not a good fit here. I have to assume Dunbar will be healthy for next season. Obviously Sproles is the better player but Dunbar provides that similar presence at a much cheaper contract which is key given our current salary cap situation.

I could see the Skins going hard after Sproles

We need another back... Our running game looked terrible when Murrary was not in the game, save a few flashes from an injured Dunbar, and the one dependable game by Randle against the Eagles. We need someone to take pressure off of Murrary, add another dimension, and keep him healthy. I like Dunbar, but I don't know if he is the answer... but at this stage, neither is Sproles...

True on all accounts. Assuming Dunbar will be healthy, a backup RB isn't the hardest thing to find.

I'd be open to bringing him in for the right price especially with Linehan running the offense...guy knows how to get his RBs involved in the passing game.

Sproles has never gotten many carries. He has 437 career rushing attempts since joining the league in 2005.

And I'm failing to see your logic. If you think Dallas under utilizes their backs then how would he be able to gain over a 1000 yards. He was in a great system in New Orleans and failed to get to 1000 yards the last two seasons.

My whole desire is to have capable backup at RB.

I always laugh at people who remark somebody isn't a fit for us because they haven't been All Pro or something.

When Bush was also there in New Orleans, Sproles was to play the same role he did as in San Diego.

3rd down conversion back and spread formation RB in the shotgun.

That's what he does.

Would his snaps have to be managed?

Sure.

Would it make sense to rest Murray?

Sure.

Does Randle or Dunbar provide any offensive pressure when they go in?

No.

So I can see it happening.

our offense is about identical to NO..so easy transition there.

Unfortunately, cap room is the problem and it begins and ends there.

It really depends on what kind of deal we could get. I think Sproles could be a good fit and give the offense an added dimension. Linehan did a good job with both Bush and Bell and hope that he brings some of those screens and short RB passes to Dallas. Having a RB with Sproles ability and the real threat of RB/screen game would help open up some space for down field plays. Since we already have Harris, Sproles wouldn't have to play ST like he did in NO, but did give us a very capable return man as back up. I like the idea of Sproles on the roster, but considering how many other holes we need to fill and the thought that there are other teams that would target him, make it very unlikely to land him for a good price.

Would Sproles be an asset to this team? Most likely. Would it be worth the cap hit? Probably not. Would I rather have a younger guy who can match Sproles' production and do it at a lower cap charge and have more long term upside.... yes. But that would also require the use of a draft pick.... probably somewhere in the 3rd round or so.
