A DUI can happen to anyone who has relatively poor judgement -- I'd be hesitant to take that as a serious character issue.

Having suffered a broken right forearm for the second time this season, Pro Bowl strong safety Roy Williams was put on injured reserve Tuesday.

The Cowboys signed Daren Stone, who worked out for the team earlier in the day. Stone played in 12 games for Atlanta last season and had 10 tackles. He had an interception in the preseason before he was cut. The 6-3, 215-pound Stone played at Maine.

Agreed, I got a DUI in the past. Not proud of it, but it happens.I was driving at 9pm and literally had one margarita and a beer. They had a road block ( they have random roadblocks during the summer for zero tolerance). I didn't swerve, didn't hit anything. I wasn't even feeling tipsy. But I had some in my system and got a DUI bc of it. I learned a lot from it, but I don't think that makes me a bad person. I have never even had a speeding ticket. Never been in trouble before. It is one of those things that can happen to anyone, if you ever have one or two beers even you can get a DUI b/c the legal limit doesn't always apply, some states have "officers consent".

wait, wait, wait.. we signed a guy off the street with a questionable past?

Why don't we sign the guy off the street with a perfect history, 4.2 40 time, and Pro Bowl potential? Oh yeah, he doesn't exist. If a guy is available at this point in the season there's probably a good reason. From what I remember was this guy is a pretty great athlete (played basketball at a high level as well) and he could be a steal. This guy has safety size and corner speed. He might actually help us.

this is what sporting news draft guide said about darren stone

oh yeah, the fans in atlanta were very happy with him, but after the dui the falcons cut him, i think that was due to the heat they were getting with all of the vick trouble too, so this maybe a player, you never know

Darren Stone; 6-2 3/4 4.58 Maine grade 4.5 16th player on the safety list

Strengths; has good acceleration and speed. Is quick and smooth. Has body and coordination that most tall safeties lack. When attacking in run support, gets there fast and with a closing burst. Can cover tight ends man to man. Has long arms to break up passes and the range to make plays deep along the sideline.

Weaknesses; Is raw and a much better athlete than a player. Has a high choppy backpedal and struggles to transition out of it. Is a little thin, is too passive in run support, can get knocked backward.

Bottom line; Stone has the quickness, athleticism and speed to be a starter. He is worth a late pick because of his potential and character.

Jerry is running this team into the ground.

Yep. Seems like we're going back to the days of players with clear character issues.

Don't like the DUI. But this guy will be behind Keith Davis, Courtney Brown and (if healthy) Pat Watkins. It's not a big deal eitherway.
