It breaks my heart to think Jason may never win a Superbowl, but at least he will have the Hall of Fame.

Definitely best Cowboys TE ever, but as far as overall Sharpe & Gonzalez were better than him imo.

I consider most of the receiving only tight ends as big WR. Sharpe is the only one that seemed to try and round out his skills.

There is no doubt in my mind that he's the greatest of all time, overall. There are some that were/are better receivers. There are some that were/are better blockers. However, nobody has ever been as good of a combination of both in NFL history IMO.

I think he has better route running and hands then any of those guys. Witten just doesn't have the speed that Gronk, Graham, Sharpe, Gates etc. had. Speed doesn't make a TE a great reciever......hands and route running do

There will be a whole lot of missing when this stud decides to hang up his cleats. We are seeing the last of his kind spin his craft.... a tougher, and more complete tight end we will never see again. He is a sure bet to make the Hall of Fame, you would have to be blind to not give him the moniker of BEST "COMPLETE" TIGHT END EVER.

Witten is one of my favorite Cowboys ever, and a future HOFer no doubt. Better than Tony Gonzalez or John Mackey is questionable though.

And could never give him a nod over Mike Ditka of the Bears/Cowboys or Pete Retzlaff of Philly. Even Jackie Smith of St. Louis/Dallas might have been better.

But Witten has stood the test of time and I think he was Parcell's first big draft choice for us in his era.

Witten is a throwback to the tough guy players I grew up loving about the NFL.

Thanx, Jason.

Only you could make running down the field without a helmet be an Iron Man signature.

JWit is a HOFer and probably the greatest Cowboy TE of all time. Being a big time Cowboy homer I'm still not going as far to say he is the greatest TE ever yet. Let's see what he does the rest of his career first.

Some tried to argue that Emmitt Smith didn't belong up there also...

None of those guys blocked like Witten. And none of them have his statistics either, except for Gonzalez and Sharpe, and Witten's about to pass Sharpe.

Depends on which stats you are talking about. Winslow as only 12 less TD catches in half the overall catches and also averages about 7 more yards per game in again about half the catches. John Mackey's numbers came on only 331 catches. He had 38 TDs and averaged about 16 yards per catch.

That is true, However Witten is about as throw back of a TE in the game today. A TE who is very good at blocking and receiving. Many of todays TE are no more than oversized WR they will not block. Jason does the entire job of the TE position.

Jason is a throw a back tight end I agree.

I don't know if lots of people will agree with me, but its a tie between Jason Witten and Jay Novacek in my opinion.

If Gronkowski keeps it up he will probably leave everyone in the dust. He's pretty much already halfway to Gonzalez's TD record and he's only in year 5.

It would be interesting to see how good Novecek would be in this era.
