The Houston Chronicle reports the general feeling around the Senior Bowl was that David Carr can be had in exchange for a third-round pick.

The Chronicle cautions that it's too early to tell if the talk is legitimate, but multiple sources were aware of the Texans' supposed asking price in Mobile. One personnel official said Houston won't get a third-rounder for Carr, and a conditional fourth-round pick would be more realistic.

No thanks. We already pissed away a third rounder on a Houston qb.

Why get Carr? We've got his clone (Bledsoe) on our roster already for no picks!

Carr had fewer passing yards in 16 games than Romo had in 10 and 1/2.

And that was playing a ton of catch-up games, with a Pro Bowl receiver on his team.

Carr played on a team with an o-line that was subpar when the season began, and lost three starters for all or part of the year with injuries.

DC is damaged goods at this point, he's spent his entire career running for his life. He could have been a quality starter, but the Texans have pretty much ruined him.

Like 99% of ALL rookie QBs, Carr should of sat on the bench his first year (or two).

He was ruined by Dom Capers (or whoever it was that decided to start him right away).

if u have talent it cant be ruined by playing!!! look at Peyton Manning is he ruined? Aikman made the HOF after starting right away! Now unless u are saying he is not a true #1 overall pick then u may have a point!

watch a Texans game for once!!!

I can even watch the guy play... a player drops a ball and he thinks the world is coming to an end!!! its 3rd and 4 and he is trying to complete a 20 yard dig!

but maybe you are right about him playing right away thats the same thing you said about QUINCY...

I think he will get some good interest. I would not be surprised to see him succeed on a different team or at least be a successful backup. I would give up a 5th for him :p:

Its an absolute crime what Houston did to Carr; never after the first year did they really try and fix their O line; no QB in history has been sacked as many times. And Carr is nowhere near as immobile as BLedsoe is. Houston makes the Detroit Lions look well run; and the Oakland Raiders look like the Pats.

I'd take him as a backup for a 4th without a second thought....he isn't going to beat out Romo and that's good, he has starting experience, he'll have a better OL, he'll have some better surrounding talent, and all he'll have to do hopefully is hold the clipboard and take a few kneel downs when we're winning big...but he'll be there in a pinch. Given the alternatives for backup with some experience....guys like Simms, Griese, Plummer...I'd take Carr...even for a draft pick.

yea, aikman sat, didn't he?
bledsoe when he got drafted...he sat
payton and eli - they sat.

wait - no...no they didn't!!!

some people seem to make their own personal preference a hard and fast rule vs. just their preference.

I think he would be a great backup for a 4th round draft pick. That said you don't really trade a pick even that high for a backup quarterback.

Actually it seems to me that we should simply wait until the Texans cut him. If they floating a 3rd for Carr now, their price will go down as we get closer to the draft and take a nosedive after that. Then if we do bring in Norv to tutor both Jason Garrett and Romo, Carr would also benefit and then we either keep him as a backup to Romo or more likely trade him for maybe a 4th or even 3rd rounder in a year or so.

Should I even bother pointing out that I said 99% of all QBs?

And throwing Eli's name in there doesn't help your argument, it helps mine.

You named 2 legitimate names. You are NOWHERE NEAR proving my 99% OPINION wrong.

And Bledsoe at least sat PART of the season.

Carr still has tremendous physical skills, that has never been the problem. DC has been ruined by the Texans inability to build anything that even remotely resembles a legit NFL offense.

The offensive line has been a disaster from day one, and has never gotten appreciably better. With the exceptions of Andre Johnson and the oft-injured Domanick Davis, the skill position talent has been NFL Europe-caliber.

Here's a stat that tells you all you need to know about the Texans offense: in 75 starts, Carr has been sacked 249 times.

20 yard dig on 3rd and 4? What team were you watching?

I've seen every game the Texans have ever played. If you had, you would know that they barely even tried to throw down the field this past season. The o-line was so awful, and Carr had become so gunshy in the pocket, that the coaches tried to get the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible.

Carr is not blameless for the path his career has taken to date, but he's clearly more sinned against than sinner. In the right situation I believe he can still be a solid NFL qb.

If Carr would spend more time learning to read defenses, and less time on his hair and makeup, he might turn out to be a steal by trading a 3rd round pick.
