i was listening to the ticket and they were saying that there were reports that Leonard Davis could have gotten more money from NY and Washington but he wanted to come to dallas... if thats true then im even more glad that we got him , it makes sense though, he does already live in texas.

If true that sure makes the Washington Post look a little foolish. A Skins fan posted a blurb by them yesterday that all Washington basically did was drive up our price.

Be funny if Davis validated this.

2. The Leonard Davis drama was the best of the weekend. Davis, a native Texan, wanted to sign with the Cowboys so his parents could see him play. They live a little more than an hour from Dallas. But the Commanders wooed him, and he was intrigued. Pressed by the Cowboys on Friday night for a figure that would prevent him from making the trip to Washington, Davis asked for $24 million in guarantees. Once he got to Washington, Davis' wife kept calling and telling him the wisdom of signing in Dallas so his parents could see him. He signed a staggering seven-year, $49.6 million deal with Dallas that included $18.7 million in guarantees. The Commanders weren't going to go that high. The Giants might have gone higher to make him their left tackle. Davis will play right guard or right tackle for the Cowboys.

What I heard is Washington offered close to the same money. The Giants on the other hand were ready to offer substantially more. It came down between Dallas and NY. Dallas is home and his family could come see him play. He was supposedly quoted as "absolutely wanted no part of Tom Coughlin". So he took less to come to Dallas. Washington didn't have a chance since they offered the same money as Dallas with Dallas being home.

Well, I don't know the specifics of what NY or Washington offered but I do know that the Tax benifits in Texas are something that every player looks at. Could be that they did offer more but could also be that it wasn't enought to off set the over all value of the deal when you consider Texas and it's Tax laws.

Dallas' media speculation is just as reliable as La Confora.

It's all just speculation for speculation's sake.

yea but its not like he had the cowboys by the balls... we paid market value for him and maybe even got him at a discount.

Are you sure about that or just speculating?

Because were not football people and have no way to judge talent like the big guys in the NFL. I'm a Chef and have no clue wether he was worth it or not, but i will trust our people and the choice they have made.

Ahh, he was a very good and dominant OG his first 3yrs in the league until Dennis Green took over and decided to move him to OT... I wouldn't say he failed at every position. I don't think he failed at OT either, he was just a better OG...

Well actually Davis said it himself in the PC thread in the Daily Zone. ;)

That it came down to Washington and Dallas.

For a left tackle (the most prized position on the offensive line) we got a discount.

I beleive the Colts Tarik Glenn makes something like $11M a year and Walter Jones got a 7 year 54.5 million dollar deal that also had $20M in signing bonuses and incentives.

Assuming can be bad, but it doesn't take huge leap of it to think Wash offered more based on these comments. Of course, it's all in how you interpret it.

How close were you to signing in Washington?

LD: It was close. When it came down to money I had to decide wher I wanted to live. I talked to my agent and my wife and it was obvious Dallas was the right choice for us.

But he isn't a LT.

And he isn't as good as Tarik Glenn or Jones. Risky signing.
