So the feeling is Martellus Bennett was the young player Jerry Jones was referring to Wednesday, when the owner said he turned down a deadline day trade for what would have been a premium draft pick.
Various reports have said the Cincinnati Bengals were trying to trade for the second-year tight end from Texas A&M.
After hearing of the alleged discussions via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, Bennett shrugged off the rumors.
"That's just part of this league, part of the things that go on in the NFL," Bennett said. "I'm happy to be a Cowboy and this is where I want to be. So thank you, Jerry."
Bennett said he would have been disappointed if he had been traded to the Bengals. He said he had worked out for Cincinnati before the draft and liked their tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes.
No one from the Cowboys front office has confirmed to Bennett that he was indeed the object of another team's desires on Wednesday.
"As far as the organization to really care about you," Bennett said. "I'd like to have 40 catches right now but I don't, I have four, so to still value me the way they do is always good."
