Greg Ellis-LB- Cowboys May. 26 - 1:52 pm et

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed Tuesday that Greg Ellis has permission to seek a trade.

"It's likely Greg will play somewhere else next year," Jones acknowledged. Jones did indicate that he's in no rush to release Ellis as he lets the lifetime Cowboy talk to teams he'd want to play for. Ellis could fit as a rotational 4-3 defensive end in Cincinnati, Jacksonville, St. Louis, or Washington.

Rodney Hannah-TE- Cowboys May. 26 - 12:59 pm et

Cowboys TE Rodney Hannah is sitting out OTAs due to a broken hand.

Hannah, a college basketball player who spent '08 on the practice squad, is in a roster battle with rookie John Phillips behind Jason Witten and Martellus Bennett. Hannah is the better athlete, but Phillips is a pro-ready blocker.

Greg Ellis-LB- Cowboys May. 26 - 12:54 pm et

Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis was not in attendance as the team began its next round of June OTAs on Tuesday.

Ellis was sent home last Thursday while the team decides what to do with him. He will be difficult to trade because of his pricey $4.15 million salary.

OTA Practices Resume Without Ellis
Posted by nickeatman at 5/26/2009 10:57 AM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

As expected, Greg Ellis is not in attendance as the Cowboys resume OTA practices at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton.

The veteran linebacker was reportedly sent home before the team departed for last Thursday’s practice, although he not only practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday, but worked with the first-team unit. Earlier this off-season, Ellis told reporters the coaching staff had already informed him the intentions of putting Anthony Spencer ahead of him on the depth chart at one outside linebacker spot. Ellis has often been frustrated with the combination of his diminishing role and his contract status. If he is released, the Cowboys would save about $4.15 million on the cap, but if they can somehow trade him, more than $5 million comes off the cap this year because they would not be forced to pay Ellis a $1.5 million guaranteed bonus. Stay tuned. More details to come.

· Rodney Hannah, who is supposed to battle for the third tight end position, suffered a broken right hand and is spending Tuesday’s practice with his hand in a wrap.

· For the second straight week, special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is conducting his portion of practice, wearing a stabilizing neck brace and using a megaphone to shout instructions. Last week, DeCamillis worked the special teams practice and then left before the end of the entire practice.

· Jason Hatcher (knee scope) is out here but not working with the rest of the defensive ends.

· Rookie fullback Asaph Schwapp is at practice in full uniform, just three days after being jailed for a few hours after his arrest at Dallas Love Field Airport for carrying a throwing star.
