Despite suffering a scary ankle injury on Saturday that resulted in being carted off the practice field, cornerback Mike Jenkins is hoping to return to practice here Tuesday at the Alamodome.

Jenkins’ sprained right ankle has kept him out of action since the injury, but the second-year cornerback knows he dodged a bullet.

“Definitely, it could’ve been way worse than what it is,” Jenkins said. “It’s just a sprain. I’ll be back real soon, not sure when, but real soon. I’ll try to work myself back into practice (Tuesday).”

Jenkins wouldn’t rule himself out of the game Thursday against Oakland.

“I don’t know yet. Of course, I would like to play. But we’ll see how it goes Tuesday,” Jenkins said. “At the end of the day, It’s my decision in how I feel. But it’s hard because you have to be smart, but you want to play. Definitely, if it wasn’t preseason, I think I’d already be back there playing. I definitely want to get in there and get my first game with the starters.”

sit it out Jenkins, i know it can be tempting, but no need to risk even 1% of your health on this game.

There is zero reason to rush him back in for a pre-season game. My boy OScan is more than capable. Let him sit this week.

I think it would be good, so that we could see more of the younger guys such as Courtney Brown

He doesn't lack in confidence does he? Despite splitting reps on the 1st unit with Scandrick all camp, he firmly believes that is his spot to lose. I like it.

He also knows that if he isn't out there he could be Wally Pipp to Scandrick's Lou Gehrig.......(at least until TNew calls it quits). Good issue to have if you're the Cowboys. Two young starting caliber CB's who are confident and competitive! Nice!
