But don’t expect much of anything else. The rookie quarterback from Texas A&M will likely be the third quarterback for Sunday’s game. NFL rules allows teams to dress a third QB and place him as one of the eight inactive players for the game.
If McGee were to play for any reason, none of the first two quarterbacks would be eligible to play in that game.
McGee, who suffered a sprained MCL against the Titans on Aug. 21, has worked back into practice this week, but still is limited.
“I’m not at 100 percent right now,” McGee said. “I think I’ll be out there Sunday, but more in just an emergency role. But my knee has felt a lot better this week.”
McGee said he split some of the scout-team reps this week with rookie Rudy Carpenter, an undrafted free agent from Arizona State, who is on the practice squad.
McGee said he expects to return to full strength either next week or the following. But his status as the inactive third quarterback likely won’t change this season.
