I think we all realize the loss of Terrell Owens takes away some explosiveness from the Cowboys offense. They have always said he'll be a tough guy to replace.
So how can the Cowboys do it? Tony Romo says it's all about maximizing their opportunities, which means making as few mistakes as possible. In the preseason they showed they could consistently put together long drives.
“We’re the type of team that we’re going to move the ball," Tony Romo said in his conference call with the Tampa media on Wednesday. "We’re going to be OK, it’s just that we’ve got to minimize mistakes and turnovers. Usually at the end of the day the more you can handle people around you without turning the ball over or giving the ball back to them you have a great chance of being on top on the scoreboard."
Romo was asked about his off-season goal of taking more care of the football, including keeping two hands on the rock when rolling out to pass.
"I felt like that was something I needed to improve on," he said. "And that’s something I worked very hard at this off-season.”
The Cowboys have had a lot of firepower over the last few years, but haven't always made the most of their opportunities. There's less room for mistakes now, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if Romo and Co. actually do make fewer of them.
Check DC.com later for more on the test Romo faces with a historically stingy Buccaneers defense this week.
