Salary Cap stuff

The NFLPA announced today that the salary cap for 2009 will be $123 million, up from $116 million.

So where does that leave the Cowboys?

Well, the team salary for the 2009 season is projected at $121 million, second most in the NFC East. That number can change, higher or lower, if the team releases players and signs them. Washington has the most at $128 million. The Cowboys are under the cap but are working to get about $7 million to $10 million underneath it by the time the 2009 season begins.

Cutting some players and restructuring current deals will help in the process.

On the daily zone, it says we're $6 mill+ below the cap. Which is it?

The salary cap is a joke, teams can manipulate the numbers all they want and sign just about anybody they want.

That is why I am so happy the cap is gone in 2010 and I hope it never comes back.

My biggest fear is that football will turn into baseball. Ya it would be fun for us Cowboy fans because we will get the high priced players, but you know that little snake Snyder will load his team up to. I like the salary cap and parity in the league right now.

We'll get a $5.7 million cap credit for the bogus incentive we gave Rodney Hannah, a net $4.1 million of cap room when Zach Thomas' contract voids, $596,000 of cap room when Chris Canty's contract voids and $1.5 million when Adam Jones is released. That's $11.896 million more cap room than we have right now.

There probably will be some other smaller charges and credits, too, and we'll have to tender our RFAs and EFAs. We'll probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of $10 million under the cap without making any cap moves. But that's a very preliminary number.

we would be stuck and lost without adam,

i got a chuckle when i mentioned to mickey spagnola about the cap last year, with how much room we had, and mickey said no, the cowboys had less than what adam said

and poor mickey he got proved that he was wrong

You the man Adam.

Any chance we can create enough room to go after a big name like Peppers or Suggs???

Ok, adam let me get this straight, we had about 6 millon in cap saved from last year right. Plus the 10 million you said we should get for the moves above. That totals up to about 16 million. Then as I understand after signing our restricted agents, etc, we should have about 10 million.

Ok, how much should it cost us for our draft picks, that should leave us about 8 million right?

Then, if reports are true, they cut or release or trade roy williams or restructure his contract, that should add 2 million or more back to cap right. then how much money do we save if we cut or trade greg ellis? Releasing Proctor or Mcquistan too?

Then, if the cowboys keep T O like I think they will, if we trade Patrick Crayton, how much money will we save?

I think we have to resign Chris Canty or sign Ogar Olgansky big DE from Chargers, maybe resign burnett for sure too. How much do you think that would cut into our cap salary?

Finally, if we do trade carpenter like i think the cowboys might, say to miami for beck, how much into the cap do we save and lose for picking up QB Beck?

The cap the NFL has is a great way to make it a even playing field.

You can only manipulate the cap to a certain extent....sooner or later you will have to pay. Jerry did that during the 90's.

If we get rid of the cap....teams like the Cowboys will out spend everyone.
Its ok i guess to some because we are the Cowboys.....but IMHO the NFL needs a cap.

The only thing I'd like to see changed is a rookie salary cap. They should have to earn their first big contract.

Amen. Thats a bigger problem imo than the cap itself, which i dont even mind.

I'd rather they keep the cap and do something about rookie deals, rather than eliminate the cap all together.

I'm really not interested in the NFL becoming MLB Version II when it comes to the salaries teams are paying out.

We'll get an even better player than Peppers or Suggs with all that money. This guy named Demarcus Ware who's pretty good.
