and if Wade had said "well our starters arnt going to play more than a series or two" there'd be outcries from the myopic people that "Wade's a cupcake!!!!"..."they arnt even working hard!!!!"..."they need all the extra work they can get!!!!"

It just never ends with some of you people, no matter what they do, its wrong.

Until one of them takes a helmet in the knee, at which point it's hurtful. If the risk were anywhere near the reward, with the amount of impact free agents who change hands each season, you'd be seeing starting teams taking more reps together all over the field. You don't, because it's not worth the risk.

Not to mention you'd have to keep in your OL starters, included vets like Adams on the field the same time in order to protect Romo. It just doesn't make any sense.

It's will help them get their rhythm and work which each other. You may say it's not important but it does help. Also if that happens it happens injuries are apart of the game. If they get hurt playing 2 series do we just not let them play in the preseason?

We need to win this game to establish ourselves as legit contenders this year.

If we can't beat Tennessee in the preseason, then what makes us think we can win in December?

Maybe this sports just to physical for you to watch man try taking up golf or something else non physical cause injuries happen in this sport it really sucks when its from your own team but its just part of it man. You cant sit here and baby players cause you're worried about them getting hurt cause they could just as easily get hurt in practice. The debate on how many games there should be during the preseason can start a hole other debate but the fact remains preseason is essential to getting a team prepared and in tuned for the regular season and the 2 or 3QTR dress rehearsal is vital for a team to get the bugs out and fine tune things for the season.

I think this is a GREAT opportunity for the back-ups to go up against starting-caliber players instead of the other teams' scrubs.

It may not be pretty but I think it can offer them more chances to learn.

Not sure, but it seems that that eye roll might be aimed at me. You've never heard me say anything as stupid as 'Wade's a cupcake.' And what I'm saying, is that there are fairly well-established guidelines for how much you play your starters in preseason to get them acclimated, and that there are good reasons why those guidelines have been established. The team's started out hot each of the last two seasons under Wade, and there's no reason in the world to needlessly risk injury by playing your starters more than necessary.

Yeah, jchocolate. You nailed it. It's like you're in my head: my problem is that the sport is just too physical for me to watch during the preseason.

The difference between preseason and practice is that it's widely held around the league that 16 quarters of preseason play aren't necessary to get an entire team acclimated, much less the starting units. What I said above in the thread is that, unless you intend to scale back in the 3rd game, it's an unnecessary risk to play your starters more than normal in game two. I would think this is self-evident.

We're really not debating than cause we are both on the same page. I thought you were throwing a tissy on extended play cause its only the second game. I totally agree with where you're coming from. I'm all for this game being the dress rehearsal sinces its a pretty good team to help us get ready but if in fact our starters are playing this game with extended time than yeah that needs to be all she wrote maybe a series for the 3rd game but close shop on our starters and use the bulk of the game minutes for the younger players so the coached can evaluate them.

Wait. We're not arguing then? Because I'm just getting started. :)

Man up bro. Just like everything else in life, something that is not practiced for an extended period of time needs to be fine tuned at some point. You know, kinda like you getting a date or having the touch of a woman. It all needs to be fine tuned after awhile.

You're not going to really be able to evaluate the backups against Tennesee's starters. Sorry, but those guys couldn't keep up with Oakland's backups. Tennesee's starters drop 35 on these guys in a hurry probably. On the other hand, you don't want to risk your starters too much when you still have your own dress rehearsal next week. This is a no win for Dallas.

I am sure our team will give maximum effort to win the first game ever in the new stadium even if it is preseason.

Things like that are important to this franchise, kind of like the last game in Texas Stadium.

Wait. :(

Nevermind. :bang2:

It is still just a preseason game and I do not care if we win. I want to see a good consistant effort from the all the units with zero injuries.

No we don't. It has no relationship. The Titans in August will not be the team they are in December. Nor will moving it up a week have any impact on injuries. Injuries can happen any time.

Why this game is better to play the starters more is because of the quality of opponent. The "dress rehearsal" is usually the third game. However, who would you rather see your starters "prove" themselves against? A quality team like Tennessee? Or the San Francisco 49ers?

I like the idea of switching it up. Tennessee is deeper and better. While we will see a lot of backups from them, I'd rather see that as some are better than the starters that San Francisco will show us in two weeks. And the SF game is the one where we have the most choices to make in terms of cuts. I'd rather use our bubble players against their varsity to see where they are at and help the decision making process.

I think they need to play longer and it might as well be this game. It doesn't matter if its the 2nd or the 3rd game they're going to play meaningful minutes at some point. Get it over with now, get it out of the way, and use the final two as your evaluation games and only have the starters play the series or two thing in those games.

You always hope they don't get hurt but, honestly, they take that risk every day in practice as well. Are we not supposed to have Romo practice simply because someone might get blocked into his legs and put him out?

You can't think like that. Injuries happen you just keep playing and pray for the best.

If it were my call I would only have the starters play mid way through the 2nd qrt. Then again it is not my job on the line it is Wade and he is going to do what he feels is best to get this team ready. If he feels the 1st unit needs more time in game situations together then do it.

I don't care about Tennessee's dress rehearsal. Let's keep our players healthy if at all possible. Our third game shoud be our dress rehearsal, not Tennessee's third game.

I am with you on this one. This teams depth at certain postions is not NFL starter ready or are unknowns, so why risk injury to starters for the sake of the 2nd preseason game.

Agreed. Injury is a risk on every play, season, pre-season, scrimmage, camp, or practice. We live with it. We can't put the players in protective bubbles, this is a contact/collision sport and you can't prepare for it with make believe and the scent of wildflowers and shame.

This team needs to get it right, put those guys out there and get the reps they need to be ready from Snap One against Tampa.

yeah romo to roy connection needs game reps not against courtney brown and alan ball lol
