Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said he expects Terry Glenn
to return quickly.

What's The Scoop:

First T.O, now T.G.

The Cowboys' top two receivers missed Monday's morning practice. Terrell Owens continued to rest his sore left hamstring and Terry Glenn missed his first practice of training camp because of painful blisters on his feet.

Third-year veteran Patrick Crayton and rookie Sam Hurd practiced with the first team, and Terrance Copper joined them when the offense went to three-wide sets.

Parcells said he expects Glenn to return quickly, but he didn't have a timetable for Owens' return. Owens has now missed six consecutive practices, including last Saturday's scrimmage, though MRI results on his hamstring were negative.

Owens reiterated after practice that he's "day-to-day." Parcells said the Cowboys' training staff has briefed him on Owens' injury. He said he doesn't know exactly what's keeping Owens from returning to practice, but still isn't concerned about his new receiver.

"No, only that he's missing a lot of work," Parcells said.

Quick Shots:
Parcells said overall he was pleased with Saturday's 98-play scrimmage. He praised second-year defensive end Jay Ratliff, who has replaced Kenyon Coleman on the first team with Marcus Spears rehabbing his right knee that was scoped to repair torn meniscus more than a week ago. Parcells said Ratliff will challenge for a starting job, regardless if Spears is playing or not.

The Cowboys released rookie quarterback Jeff Mroz, who basically hadn't taken a snap the last three days of practice, and signed rookie quarterback Matt Baker. Baker practiced Monday wearing No. 16, but he didn't get much of an audition. The offense jumped off-sides before his lone snap in the final play of the 7-on-7 drills. The Cowboys also released rookie linebacker Kai Parham, which trimmed the roster to 81 players.

The Cowboys worked out former Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell on Sunday but haven't signed him. Parcells said he didn't watch the workout. "Just trying to get an idea of who's where and who's what," he said.

After working mostly with the second unit in Saturday's scrimmage, Flozell Adams worked at first-team left tackle Monday. "I think he's coming along," Parcells said of Adams, who has looked sluggish at times in his return from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

First-year tight end Tony Curtis worked with the second team following his multi-catch performance in the scrimmage.

The Cowboys donned their throwback white helmets for the morning practice, which will be worn in the Aug. 21 preseason game against the Saints.

You Should've Seen:

Parcells kicked the first-team offense off the field before it even took the first snap in red zone drills for continuing to be disorganized. He sent in the second unit to face the first-team defense.

Who's Hot:

Sam Hurd's one-on-one sessions with Terrell Owens seem to be paying off. The undrafted rookie from Northern Illinois followed a dazzling catch in 7-on-7 drills with a touchdown grab from Drew Bledsoe in team drills.

Who's Not:

The Cowboys' kickers combined to make 5-of-10 field-goal attempts. Mike Vanderjagt and Shaun Suisham connected on 2-of-4 attempts, while Tyler Fredrickson made 1-of-2 tries.

The "You Should've Seen It" part was funny.

The first team offense lined up in a illegal formation, and Parcells yelled at them and told them to get off the field. The second string came in for about 10 plays and then the 1st team came in.

i thought Parcells said something in the PC to the effect that he was glad to see Vandy making some kicks?

2-4 seems to be contradictory to other reports. or Parcells and i have very differing ideas on success at the K position.
