IRVING, Texas – If they need some additional inspiration, the Cowboys need look no further than the opposite sideline on Thursday afternoon.

True, the Carolina Panthers, at 10-0, are one of just two unbeaten teams left in the NFL this season. But it was just a year ago that they faced the same dire straits as Dallas.

See if this sounds familiar: in 2014, the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 start, but they couldn’t maintain. Entering their Week 12 bye, they had dropped five straight and they sat at 3-8-1 on the year. Undeterred, they turned their season around.

“We were 3-8-1 at one point and were able to get it rolling, get it headed in the right direction,” said Panthers coach Ron Rivera. “A lot of things had to fall in place and they did.”

Yep. They've won 14 straight reg season games since then.

lol

I wasn't saying Dallas was actually going to do that. Just giving the panthers props

Why do that?

I see a ton of people here ripping their accomplishments this year and suggesting that it is just okay for a three win team to be favored.

They only had to win the final 4 games of the regular season. We have to win the final 7. Also, the win percentages of each of the 4 opponents at the time they played were:
- Saints: 0.41
- Bucs: 0.15
- Browns: 0.50
- Falcons: 0.40
- Average: 0.36

The percentages (as of now) of the teams we have to play are:
- Dolphins: 0.44 (when we played them)
- Panthers: 1.00
- Commanders: 0.40 (twice)
- Packers: 0.70
- Jets: 0.50
- Bills: 0.50
- Average: 0.56

Not only do we have to win nearly twice as many games as they did to make the playoffs, but our strength of schedule is also nearly twice as difficult.

And yet exactly this time last year all the media was calling him a terrible coach and figuring out who was going to replace him and guaranteed he was gonna be fired. Like they say winning cures all that ails. Now suddenly he's a good coach. Not to mention before this year he has had 3 losing seasons and 1 winning season. Worse win percentage than Garrett.

This stuff does not matter. These types of things don't apply to Dallas. No team in the NFL...maybe in all professional sports is in the spotlight/fish bowl like the Dallas Cowboys are. No disrespect to Carolina...but teams do not get up to play them like they get up to plays us...no matter WHAT the record is. So when the schedule is released....Dallas is circled on the calendar for any team that we play. We would not go 10-0 in "obscurity"....so the pressure to maintain that pace would be different for us than it is for them...so this is just noise and nonsense to me.

Before this season these were all the kinds of articles that were on the internet about Rivera. Everybody wanted him gone. Similar to the anti-Garrett posse on our board.

Tell you what.

If Garrett pulls a "Riverboat Ron" out of his backside I might believe you.

Funny how players are looking to Romo to be the savior.

Not the head coach.

And to relate that back to Rivera, well, he went 1-3 and before he decided to grow a pair and win his team over.

We have had how many years of Garrett as a head coach and oops, that darn seven game skid.

Funny how that's the narrative now. I remember just a year ago everyone was talking about how terrible of a head coach he was. Not to mention they've both been head coaches since 2011 and their records are nearly the same.

One guy did it and has his team close to an NFL record for consecutive NFL wins.

One of these things is not like the other.

I guarantee you if Garrett had done what Rivera has over the past year, you people would pump him over Tom Landry.

What do you mean he went 1-3? And Rivera went on a 6 game losing streak last year himself. Without losing his qb or anything.

At one point Garrett had won 15 of 19, which is pretty impressive too.

Narratives have certainly shifted from 12 months ago.

Narratives change based on how they are driven in the media. Like they say winning cures all.

I understand that but you are talking like Rivera had success off he back. I always felt he was a solid coach but he was on his way to getting canned with another 7 win season.
