Cowboys changing in-season schedule

IRVING — Times are a changing for the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Jason Garrett has altered the team’s practice schedule for the 2014.

Garrett is forgoing the traditional day off on Tuesday and giving the Cowboys Mondays off during the regular season.

The players will return to work Tuesday, giving them four consecutive days of practice each week.

It’s a schedule that former college coaches Chip Kelly and Jim Harbaugh brought to the NFL with them when they took jobs with the Eagles and 49ers. It’s now catching on among NFL veteran coaches.

“It’s different than anything I’ve ever done,” Garrett said. “It’s kind of the college schedule and there are probably a handful of teams who are using it now. Some guys on our staffs have used it on staffs they’ve been on. I’ve just heard some really positive things from a lot of different people about this schedule. I think everybody initially is like, ‘You’re really doing that?’ because it’s different for everybody who’s been in the NFL. But there are so many positives that come from it that people have argued on its behalf. So we just decided to go ahead and do it. Everyone I’ve talked to, they’ve really liked the rhythm of it.”

the more work you get in the better. i'm all for it
but they better be careful with the older guys because over an entire season thats alot more wear and tear.

Sounds fine to me. And it's catching on with other teams.

I'm shocked it's that new. It's not like you're gonna have guys do much in terms of physical stuff the day after a game anyway. So they come in and do the routine stuff and meet, probably half tired.

Gives the coaches an extra day to review and the players come back a little fresher on Tuesday.

I like it, Monday some players are not focused due to Tuseday being an off day or the first day back, Wednesday is viewed as another monday focus wise since its the first day back again. 4 continuous days means more quality reps.

Agreed.

Monday off should help you have a better Tuesday, and Wednesday...rather than forcing guys to be there the day after a game.

Having said that, I bet that they're going to turn the "off day" into film sessions that guys do on their own.

How? All they did was switch the day off tuesday to monday. There is no extra work. There is no added wear and tear.

It makes more sense to me. I don't think they really practice on Mondays anyway. I think they just watch film and maybe have a walk thru on Mondays.

It's the same amount of work, isn't it? They just moved the day off from tuesday to monday.

How many players will show on Monday to see a doctor or trainer? Is that a 365 day a year job? (Or is that a 52 day a year urgent care requirement?) Does the trainer control the keys to the whirlpool? When do players lift during the year?

Sometimes the players need to calm down after a hard days work. They need to get their thoughts right for the next day and just chill.

Let the coaches do their thing, because they did not get the hell beat out of them like the players did! lol

I like this move, for the players.
