ARLINGTON, Texas – Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett confirmed that cornerback Orlando Scandrick has joined his teammates at Valley Ranch this week after previously skipping voluntary offseason workouts with the goal of having his contract reworked.
“It’s great to have him back,” Garrett said Tuesday from the team’s annual home run derby sponsored by Reliant and benefiting The Salvation Army. “Orlando loves playing football, loves playing for the Cowboys. His great strength as a player is his passion for the game, the edge that he plays with.”
Previously working out on his own, Scandrick met with team officials last week to discuss his contract, which Garrett described as “a great visit.” Team owner/general manager Jerry Jones has expressed optimism that an adjustment can be made to Scandrick’s contract that pleases both sides.
The eighth-year veteran has a $1.5 million base salary for 2015, followed by $3 million base salaries for 2016, 2017 and 2018.
In the meantime, Scandrick is back in time for the start of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) next week.
“He looks good,” Garrett said. “You can tell he’s been working out. We’re going to take care of the football part. The business side will take care of itself.”
