ARLINGTON, Texas – Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett confirmed that cornerback Orlando Scandrick has joined his teammates at Valley Ranch this week after previously skipping voluntary offseason workouts with the goal of having his contract reworked.

“It’s great to have him back,” Garrett said Tuesday from the team’s annual home run derby sponsored by Reliant and benefiting The Salvation Army. “Orlando loves playing football, loves playing for the Cowboys. His great strength as a player is his passion for the game, the edge that he plays with.”

Previously working out on his own, Scandrick met with team officials last week to discuss his contract, which Garrett described as “a great visit.” Team owner/general manager Jerry Jones has expressed optimism that an adjustment can be made to Scandrick’s contract that pleases both sides.

The eighth-year veteran has a $1.5 million base salary for 2015, followed by $3 million base salaries for 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In the meantime, Scandrick is back in time for the start of voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) next week.

“He looks good,” Garrett said. “You can tell he’s been working out. We’re going to take care of the football part. The business side will take care of itself.”

I hope that Jones pushes Scandrick for leader of the pack title...that would be a win/win for the Dallas secondary.

Good to hear, I figured as much since Scandrick is a competitor. I think Scandrick gets a bad rep from some fans just because he has been part of a bad defense. He has been the most consistent performing member of our secondary for basically his whole career and he is just getting better with age.

Scandrick is the man! Love that guy- even his down year he always seemed to be in good position it was just a perfect pass or a ridiculous catch that made him look bad.

I remember when half the forum wanted him cut because he wasn't developing as fast as they thought he should.

Glad the Cowboys don't take their cues from reactionary fans.

I love him but he used to drive me crazy when we played the Giants early in his career. Their slot receiver would tear him a new one. I forgot his name?

he will have to create turnovers to take it to next level. I just don't know if he has the hands for it.
