It doesnt matter to me if Red wants to look like an uneducated hack. Thats on him and reflects on him.

Only with people such as yourself. Others are dealing with the job ahead of them and getting ready for an NFL season. I don't see any other coaches out there getting slammed for grammatical errors yet they all do it.

I doubt Garrett cares about what we say here. Let the man (WPBCowboysFan) have his say. You never know. It may benefit someone here in the future when they have to write a paper or speak in front of an audience.
I pick up bits and pieces of wisdom everywhere I go and, sometimes, have had to use the information.

That's why I don't get bent out of shape when someone corrects me. The information may prove to be useful.

Just saying. :)

No, I just pointed it out and got a response to pointing it out.

Let it not be that Im the only one here who knows a little of the Kings English . . . .

You forgot the apostrophe in I'm.. :p Also, having aced all my English and Literary courses in college I can assure you I have just as much of an appreciation for sound articulation and proper use of grammar as you do, but >> I'm << not going to hold that over people's heads as if I never make mistakes myself. Besides, I figured Garret was just being empathetical with his use of "each and every", and stressing the importance of the day-to-day mindset needed to improve as a football team.

Now if Garret was speaking like Boomhauer, then yes, there would be cause for concern...lol

Dag, and I thought the beginning of the thread was just satire and comedy. You know fun? Silly me.

There's nothing grammatically incorrect about "each and every." The words are similar, but they don't have identical meanings. "Each" day indicates that he's talking about something that happens with regularity on a daily basis. "Every" refers to the entire set of days and indicated a process that happens over a collective period of time. He's saying it's something that has to happen regularly and over time.

He could get the same essential meaning by just saying "every day," but the word "each" stresses that the process has a daily regularity to it, and it's that regularity and daily discipline that is important.

If he'd broken it out into two sentences it might be easier to see the differences in what he's intending. "We're going to do it each day." Meaning with regularity. "And we're going to do it every day." Meaning over a long period of time.

Also, it doesn't matter. It's just a throwaway sentence from an impromptu press interview. His players aren't interested in the nuance of the language. They just want to make the team and play football. Our fans, for whatever reason, they're another story. They drive me nuts each day and every day.

I noted the "Im" too. :)

And I agree with you. Although, technically "each and every day" can be considered redundant, it also can be a way to stress the importance of a particular action. It's like when the Bible records Jesus saying, "verily, verily I say unto you." The extra "verily" is used for maximum emphasis. Or if a guy says of a woman, "she is very, very pretty" he's trying to convey that she's beyond just simple pretty.

Not to steal your thunder, but I was thinking along the same lines. "Each" is more specific. "Every" is generally more collective.

When you say "each" player, the connotation is on the individual player. When you say "every" player, the connotation is on the collective, the group of players.

Good point, Idgit. :)

Are you sure it wasn't JJ?

JJ told Linehan, Linehan told Garrett. Normally, Jerry'd just use the puppet hole in the bottom of Jason's sock, but he wasn't feeling up to it after the hip replacement surgery, so he just told the OC to do it. Jason reportedly walked around and clapped when he heard about it.

Lol...pretty much true.

The good part is that it's a great philosophy to have for them and for us.

I agree, last years 12-4 is not a given for this season. Guys have to come in put last season behind them and work hard to have a chance to achieve their goals

The "we define ourselves" speech tries to explains how they were able to defy low expectations last year. I'm not sure it will translate as well, now that expectations are much higher.

Jerry only speaks through the **********. That's the Cowboy way.

Still the same, high or low outside expectation do not matter, we have to define who we are as a team

We define ourselves by what we do, what we say and don't say, and how we present ourselves each and every day,” Garrett said at the team’s annual Coaches Clinic at AT&T Stadium. “When I did this press conference a year ago, we were probably regarded as a bottom-five or a bottom-10 team in the league. One of the best things our team did last year was we defined ourselves by what we did. We didn’t listen to any outside forces saying that we weren’t this or we weren’t that. We just went to work every day. We have to do that again.

“You might think differently of us this year. It really doesn’t matter. We define ourselves by what we do, what we say and don't say, and how we present ourselves each and every day. That’s individually, that’s collectively. That’s what we’re going to start (Tuesday).”
