FRISCO, Texas – In recent years the Cowboys have shown a preference for prioritizing their own free agents first because they fully understand the value of players who have already contributed to their roster.

Stephen Paea isn’t a typical free-agent signing from outside the organization, though.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli was first Paea’s first NFL coordinator back in 2011 when the Chicago Bears drafted the 300-pound defensive tackle in the second round out of Oregon State.

Needless to say, the six-year veteran won’t take long to adjust to the Cowboys’ defense.

I love this signing. I remember wanting him in the 11' draft, but we drafted Bruce Carter instead. I felt like he could be a beast in the interior DL and wasn't that much of a drop off from Nick Fairly. I want to believe he's young enough to prove he can be pro-bowl type player. I know that may seem to optimistic, but the guy has that kind of talent and his draft pedigree confirms this. Marinelli will get the most out of him and he believes this too. He's still hungry. I like this signing, and I like the other, meager ones that they have done...they are plugging the holes of the biggest (perceived) needs with a CB, OL, DL, WR, DE...gets them back to BPA in the draft and THAT is where they need to be....they had a fantastic draft last year, and if the rooks that were injured play as well as we all hope, that could be the greatest draft in the history of the team...here's to hoping we go back-to-back this year (and, I LOVE that term for other reasons in the near future)

Will he play DT, Cowboys website has him listed as a DE.
But I guess it doesn't matter, they like the dual role guys. Jack of all trades but master at none....I sure would like some masters on the team.....

But I like the signing.

I'm pretty sure the website guys are just going off the position he played last year as a 3-4 DE

I was all over this guy on draft day. Wanted him in the third round that year.

He's more than just a guy who clogs the middle, he can generate a little a pass rush too.

It kind of makes you wonder about why he signed on with another 3-4 team after washing out in Washington after a year. Hopefully, he gets back to his Chicago form now that he's back in a 4-3.
