I don't think a single person in the country, let alone the front office expected him to be the backup this year. Next year, maybe. But I expect it too take a couple years for him to get there.
I completely agree... never said anything to the contrary.

Hearing that Dak is still not reading defenses and responding accordingly in a fast enough manner is not good. Doesn't mean he will never get it but it doesn't speak well for him displacing Kellen Moore as Romo's backup this season.
I don't think it is s surprise to the posters that watched Dak play in college. This is one of the reasons why some of us considered it as s wasted draft pick. From the reports I have read, he has not looked good in any phase of the game so far.

This. He looked like a UDFA every time I seen him play. About 7 times that I can remember. This draft may go down as the wasted opportunity draft.

Derp will always be a guy who makes some plays on athletic ability alone but is never capable of playing big boy NFL QB with any consistency.

This is Quincy Carter all over again.

Like he's never done this before.
That's one of the problems with today's college game. They don't learn to read defenses. So many teams line up, the coach or OC reads the defense and then calls the play.

No it doesn't but I'm not sure how realistic that was this season anyway.

The reality that Dak is green right now is obvious to the staff. I'm pretty confident they'll do everything they can to accelerate his reads, although it'll surely take more time for him to shake off the hesitation. Hopefully, once he gets more comfortable with his reads, he won't need to overthink things and his reaction time is gradually bound to improve.

Repetition and familiarity with the system breeds confidence and that means everything. It's just a question of how much he'll improve and if it's enough to start. If nothing else, he might quite possibly become a capable backup. That, in itself, might constitute a valuable step ahead.

I don't trust this staff to do anything good for this kid.

This board had a some information about his play during mini camp was one source, but I read several reports that stated he was slow on his reads, had trouble with accuracy and didn't have good touch when he needed it. This was all during the mini camp, but it is the same problems he had in college.

Agreed...growth issues.

I think that he is more trainable and isn't being thrown in unprepared, as was Quincy.

Never draft those guys.

Well, the reality of the situation is that this is the only staff we have at our disposal at this time. They'll either help him or they won't, given the necessary time to do so. Nobody expects it to happen overnight and precious few expect it this year. So . . . let's face it -- it's not like there's likely to be another staff to be had anytime soon, anyway. As fans, maybe we'd be well advised to remain calm and see what develops.

Sorry buddy ....... I understand what you are saying ...... but I was patient ..... for 20 years I was patient ....... I have been called a homer .... a Jerry apologist ....... a Garrett apologist ..... a Stephen Jones apologist ...... a Romo apologist (which I am proud of)

I am done being patient ........ I gave them more than enough time to right this ship ....... The Jones's will be public enemy number 1 until something changes for the better.

I can certainly understand and even relate to your angst, although my intention is to enjoy the upcoming season as much as humanly possible as a fan. I'll do my best to take it one season at a time at this point, without torturing myself any longer with something that I can't change. (It's just me.)

Oh don't get me wrong ...... I love our players (or at least the ones who love to play football instead of smoke weed)
And I will be in full cheer mode when games actually start ..... I just do not think this front office or coaching staff can help the players make it happen ..... If I am wrong it would be the most delicious crow I ever ate ...... I would enjoy every bite.
