Backup QB is about more than just who plays better, necessarily. They're going to be looking at the makeup of the QB room, at who they think can finish a game with only a handful of reps during the week. They may well want to park Rush for a year to work on everything instead of having him responsible for the game plan each week. They may not want the dynamic of having two really young players as QB1 and QB2.

There can be any number of reasons why they want Kellen Moore on the roster. Despite Rush's good game again this week, I still think it's likely they don't roll with just a rookie and a 2nd year starter. They'd have to really need that roster spot for that to make sense for them.

I just don't understand what Wade's job is if they need Moore to do it with pads on. That's being excessively dismissive of course, but it does make you wonder. When Jones bought the team he talked about 400 people doing the job of 30 or something to that effect. Moore isn't worth a roster spot, regardless of his acumen. Put him on the coaching staff if he is so valuable in the QB room. The roster spot is for people valuable on the field.

3 Qb's really, what for? Send Moore packing as fast as possible, don't even waste a practice roster spot with this guy. One of the worst Qb's I have ever seen in the NFL. He is not even fit for the Lingerie league.

Same reason we kept 2 kickers years ago!!!

I'm going to guess the issue is more what the difference is in-season between QB2 and QB3 responsibilities. They probably want the rookie to have a year to just work on his mechanics and learning the offense without having to be as closely involved with the game plan. Because the focus required to be able to come into a game on short notice probably makes working on your skillset in-season impractical.

So Moore becomes the guy who helps Dak with what he sees, participates in getting the game plans together, who takes over in a pinch if Dak goes down (knock on @Wood he doesn't), and Rush runs scout team on works on his mechanics or getting stronger or whatever until or unless somebody is needed to play QB with a full week of prep or more for whatever reason. At which point the coaches have to decide which guy to go with, and they probably go with Rush unless Moore looked good in part-time relief the week prior.

Could be time to become an asst coach
I'll pay you $7.25 an hour. Good luck because I won't like anything you say and firing is just one comment away.

When Romo was down I was pulling for Moore thru the QB shuffle, the next season he got hurt...Once Dak came on the scene I knew Moores' days were numbered...Presently all he has... is time in against Cooper Rush!...but since they'll probably keep 3 Qbs this season, then I suppose Moore will remain the b/up for now...Even though Cooper has done fine so far, I would really be surprised if he got the #2 spot this season!

Best explanation I've seen. Coming in on short notice IS different. Also, people need to understand that despite playing better than Moore by far Rush still doesn't have it between the ears like Moore does. So seeing things from the sideline and being relatively more immune to what a defense is able to do.....mess with the rookie.....is part of the equation.

My only problem with this line of thought is the ability of Rush to really do things that Moore cannot do.

Just remember 1 oh shoot takes away 100 attaboys. So getting the rookie to turn it over is a huge factor.

Right now I expect them to keep 3 although I won't be surprised to see them cut Moore. They may be able to pick Moore off the street if needed. Not sure.

We'll keep three, no way they cut Moore, that would piss Linehan off.

How is this even possible??? Kellen must have pictures of the entire coaching staff. Seriously, I cannot name one thing Kellen has done better than Cooper, not one!

What is the love affair with a horrible, girl throwing QB all about?
Moore is eligible for the practice squad and that's where he should be. No ones going to claim him and he will still be in the "QB room"
Where as if they place Rush on the practice squad he will be swept up before the ink dries
All makes perfect sense to me.
