I would like to hear some of the best underrated movies of all time in your opinions. Specifically, what decade?

There are the classics that are many years old, but at what time did the movies start to bloom for you? I am not talking about films that are still a staple today, I mean entertaining movies that are not Oscar winners but hold fond memories in your heart due to age, experiences and what not.

Personally, I think the 1980's are just that. I was born in 1970, so that decade of movies are in my wheelhouse. I grew, experienced and matured during this time and they bring me back to points in my childhood that I forgot but remember when seeing these movies now.

Some remind me of my high school days, others of vacations, seeing naked women at that age where the opposite sex gets my interest peeked, etc.

There are far too many to mention, but I will add my favorites, in no particular order.

Better Off Dead
Night of the Comet
Losin It
Summer School
No Way Out
Romancing the Stone
Bachelor Party
Hot Dog the Movie
Saturday the 14th
Real Genius
Broadcast News
Up the Creek
Weird Science
Seems like old Times
Cloak and Dagger
Porky's
The Wild Life
Just one of the Guys

and many more.......

These are the kind of movies I used to watch over and over and loved them all. I guess the 80's were my era of enlightenment, so to say.

Its casual..........thx.
I remember a petition online a few years ago to get it on DVD. I may be mistaken but I think it had something to do with the soundtrack.

Cool thread Dex

The late 80s and early 90s is when I began getting into films but the list below ranges.

Dirty Work (Norm McDonald) : cult classic in my circle. So many one liners...
Super Troopers/Beerfest
Half Baked
Grandma's Boy
Swingers
The Breaks
Loaded Weapon 1 (Best parody of all time)
Ace Ventura
Menace II Society (basically rushed out of theatres bc of media/social backlash)

I've seen Summer School, Weird Science, and Porky's and would say Weird Science was the best of the bunch. What a cougar...

EDIT: seen Bachelor Party and that was easily the best.

In Bruge is one of my favorites.

Outlaw Josie Wales, Cool Hand Luke: not underrated in their time, but not a lot of 20 somethings have seen them.

Princess Bride for younger kids.

About 1985-1995 was great.

You have some 80's classics like Predator and Lost Boys, combined with movies like Pulp Fiction, Dumb and Dumber, and Forrest Gump.

I think 1994 was probably the greatest year for movies, ever. Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Lion King, True Lies, The Mask, Speed, Dumb and Dumber,

Absolutely on the 1994 thing.

Shawshank Redemption and Forest Gump might be my #1 and #2 all time favorite movies.

Pulp Fiction is definitely in the top 10.

Definitely some great movies there but I think some won a few awards :)

Adding two more:

1. Loverboy
2. Can't Buy Me Love

Patrick Dempsey was great in them.

It seems like everything nowadays is based on something from the '80s or a remake of some kind, either working on people's nostalgia or because they have run out of ideas.

I would almost argue that they stopped making decent movies/music around 1996 or so, of course that isn't completely true but it seems like it.

I see a lot of good movies listed in this thread... but a lot of them certainly are not under-rated.

Several good "Made for TV" movies from the late 60's until the late 70's that do not get a lot of mentions, like...

"Killdozer"
"Snowbeast"
"Duel"
"Bad Ronald"
