Well it's a slow day until OTAs tomorrow. ... the following according to "The Blitz" show on CBS 11 last night, here goes:

Landry's old megaphone was stowed away by the training staff when Tom departed the Cowboys way back then, for sentimental reasons I guess. Anyway one of the head trainers now (Buchanan I think, whose dad was also a trainer, head trainer, in the Landry era) ... suggested getting it out for DeCamillis to use when he needed one last week.

DeCamillis was reportedly very moved by the opportunity to shout out some directives on Landry's old mouthpiece. And I bet when the players found out, they were pretty knocked out, too.

(Brad Sham told the above story, I'm just repeating it here ...)

The bullhorn might have blushed a little at DeCamillis' language though. It wasn't used to hearing those kind of words when Landry was coach .. :)

I can't decide whether I think this is cool or sacrilege.

Just got back from the rainsoaked O's-Blue Jays game. Before the game, my brother and I ducked into the adjacent Baltimore sports museum, where the Lombardi Trophy from Super Bowl V is on display. Heavy security prevented me from grabbing it, so I cursed Craig Morton beneath my breath instead.

As long as the batteries are new and the old ones are out, it's OK to use the bullhorn..

And, it's not a megaphone...a megaphone does not use bateries, you just yell REALLY LOUD through them....

I think Coach wouldn't have minded...he had class. Unlike the garbage we have running the show now...(wow, that came out rough)

I called it a megaphone above as well as bullhorn because kids today have maybe heard "megaphone," but "bullhorn" is a term younger guys might scratch their head over (? just my opinion). FWIW if you search the Web, manufacturers think the same thing, and market the thing as both a "bullhorn" and "megaphone" ...

Yeah a "megaphone" thing (like cheerleaders sometimes use, or used to) is what crooners like Rudy Vallee used before there were PA systems in theaters with microphones ... that happened in about 1926 or so when Western Electric/Bell Labs invented them ... really they invented microphones and PA systems for the Vitaphone (the first successful "talkies") movies first, and the technology filtered into live stage productions. It was about the same time, using the same technology, that "electronic recording" on records with mics came into being .. before that a band really did record (crowding around) into a "backwards megaphone" and it was transferred into a moving needle, which cut an acetate. The whole thing before then was mechanical, no amplification, mics or anything. Just my 2 cents. I read a book about it once, so I have to "show off."

OT I wish Blackie Sherrod's old "2 Cents Worth" columns were put into a book. I guess he doesn't want to be on sports talk stations nowadays, or shows would book him. The dude was a treasure, very funny, and has a lot of history in his head. When Bud Shrake died recently, I thought Sherrod might come on the radio and talk, but I haven't heard anything from him in 20 years or something. Hope he's OK. Maybe he won't come on because he thinks sports talk radio hosts are "talking dogs."

Greg Williams did some "2 Cents Worth"-like entries on his ESPN blog, until he bit the dust. Hope ole' Greggo is OK.

Sorry for the OT, but the OP has that right, no?

understand how you feel Hostile,
I think Landry would be pleased to know that the bullhorn is being used to get players attention

Dont think Landry would go along with the language though being used over the bullhorn,

so its kinda a mixed feeling;

Well think of this, a man broke his back and is still coaching instead of feeling sorry for himself and quitting like many do...
