http://www.ibabuzz.com/beartalk/2015/12/02/football-espns-todd-mcshay-says-jared-goff-stay/

Jared Goff makes some exceptional throws but is still too inconsistent with his accuracy (11 INTs in 9 Pac-12 games). I’d like to see him return to school to improve is footwork and add bulk/strength to his frame, but it appears he has different plans. Neither Lynch nor Goff will receive as high a grade as Jameis Winston last year, but I expect both to be first-round picks if they declare.

— Is there a QB who can start right away and not look bad?

McShay: No. None of the 2016 QB prospects are as NFL-ready as Winston was coming into this season, and we all saw how long it took him to adjust to the NFL.

— What about the underclassmen who could use another year of development?

McShay: All the quarterbacks. Seriously. I talked about it above, but none of these guys are ready to be effective Day 1 starters in the NFL. I’d prefer to see them come back and continue to develop their skill sets.

Thanks for posting this. This is exactly why I'm against a QB at 4. You just don't draft a "project" "back-up" QB with the fourth pick in the draft. Folks keep bringing up what Greenbay did when they drafted Rodgers.. Lol, please. Rodgers was waaaay better than Goff and Wentz AND he was picked 24th!! If you want a project backup Qb, then Driskel has similar measurables as Wentz and can be had around the 5th round. No worries tho, someone on this site will pull out thier crystal ball and convince you that Romo won't stay healthy anymore, although there's a number of Qbs playing right now that are older than him that's had worse injuries! Smh...Defense wins Championships. Get it together people.

And as a senior Winston had 25 TD's and 18 INT's. I guess he was lighting it up against those stacked acc defenses.

Not to mention Mariota running a college offense that has never produced a NFL QB (not just Oregon, that type of system in general)
Yet last years class was so good and this one isn't? Makes zero sense to me. Goff and Wentz > Winston and mariota

Who's Paxton Miller? And you missed this part:

— Who are the quarterbacks we’ll be talking about on the first night of the draft?

Kiper: Two for certain, three possible, and a fourth for good measure.

Paxton Lynch of Memphis and Jared Goff of Cal are two possible top-10 picks right now. Lynch has the great range of tools, and Goff has a special arm, moves well and has a ton of experience. The third name to add to the Round 1 mix is Connor Cook of Michigan State, who at his best looks like a first-round lock, but can struggle with ball placement on his throws. The name to watch as a possible late first-round pick, perhaps by some team trading back into the first round, is Carson Wentz of North Dakota State. Forget the school name. If Wentz, a 6-foot-5, 235-pounder, were playing for Bama or Florida State you’d think, `Man, that team has a really good QB.’ He can move really well.

The thing is that if the Cowboys do pick a qb at 4 they are sitting for at least 2 years but it is at a professional facility where they can put more weight and improve their skill. It is not at the college level.

I can't see how Kiper says he would like Goff to go back for his senior year and put on weight when he couldn't put on weight while he was in school.

If the Cowboys pick Goff, he will have time to put on weight because he'll be sitting for the first two years.

Its simple. Cowboys have both short sighted fans and those who take the long term big picture view. Question is what is the front office?

Exactly! And it's funny how the uneducated will say " don't draft a project QB" when the fact is that they're all projects transitioning from college to the pros. And the transition period only supports the position that you draft one before you truly need one.

I can probably see why Winston is rated higher. But why is Mariota higher than Goff I can never understand. Mariota runs a wide spread offense with better players around him than Goff. What do scouts see?

Good luck. It's the typical baseless, hit and run stuff you'll get from this crowd. Chime in, make outlandish, unsupported statements, and then run when you get called on it.

Just scanning through the league, Carson Palmer would be the only one who fits the description. One doesn't represent "a number".

When you watched Winston and Mariota you saw franchise qbs. You just did.

With these guys you say....heh... Could be OK starters in time.

They've been talked up but this class lacks top 10 talent.
