Looks like he just got turned around. Nothing intentional about it. If it was he would've kept going the other way.

I watched that clip a lot on NFL Live because I couldn't understand it. I think he lost Gore behind the linemen and thought that Gore made a cutback to the inside. That's the only thing I can think of.

We're looking at it from a bird's eye view - Ford is looking at it on field level. There is a good chance Gore got hidden behind the lead blockers and he didn't see him, or thought he cut back.
