Defense is OK except DT and Safety

Reading the reports out I do believe that the Defense will do well at the beginning of the season. The problem I see is that the Boys are still depending on the same injured players from last season. These same players I predict will be missing at the end of this season like the last few seasons. However, two critical players that will have the defense playing well at the end are a NT and a safety. These should be good draft choices but not the first draft choices. These belong to two OL men who will protect our new $60M QB. To do otherwise would make this season a disaster!:)

On a different note. I have been looking at the potential of the UDFA class and if the scouts are as good as they were getting players during the last season. We could pick up some gems here at other positions (think RB and TE).

I believe Crawford would be a 3 technique in training as Hatcher's back up. He has more potential there. With him, Lissemore, possibly Price and Okoye in the rotation I believe we're set at DT but will need to add another potential star in the mix. 3rd DE, however, is a must. Crawford can't bend the corner as an every down edge rusher.

By the 2nd round, we need to get one of the edge rushers. Hopefully Tank Carradine.

Did we sign someone? I didn't hear about any Tony extension

No.
It's coming but not a done deal by any means.
I'm sure you get his point though.
BTW, two lineman with the 1st two picks? I say he's dreaming. Maybe 25% chance of that happening at best.

I think you are right on it being DE rather than DT we are looking at.

I also think we are relatively well positioned to look for a more traditional DE as with so many teams moving to 3-4 those guys don't fit as well for many of the teams drafting ahead of us

Unless ALL the first tier OL are gone by our pick I very seriously believe that the Cowboys WILL draft OL to protect the newly contracted Romo. Yes you heard it $60M over three years. With that kind of investment you need the insurance policy of a very good OL. That is the reason why the Boys head office WILL PICK OL first and I believe second round. Then Safety and then DT. DT before DE as teams ran all over the last years version of our DTs. Again good DT WILL make the DEs look like superman.:D

Please, let's not draft a position that is adequate, i.e. DT! Ratliff, Hatcher, Crawford, Lissemore all can play the position. We need to address what cost us last season. Offensive line. This team will go no where unless it invests in the OLine. Betting other team's backups on the cheap is what has gotten us where we are. This is the same argument that was going on last year before the draft.

We will probably trade our one and two to move up for a WR

Who's our SAM LB again?

Can't say we're okay at the position because it's basically up for grabs.

According to Stephen it is Wilber. :laugh1:

Bottom-line, though, is Dallas needs upgrades and depth and working the bargain basement in free agency and focusing on the draft are critical.

Looking like Wilbur, Albright or Sims at this point. Out of the 3 LB spots, it's the least important and least likely to have a star at the position. Unless someone falls to us, I' wouldn't be surprised to see us go into TC with these 3.

Did you not see the gaping hole in the middle of the field last year? I agree, offensive line sucks for sure, but don't dismiss defensive line. We have a lot of holes to fill and all of them are equally important.

Really, DT/NT, S, and O line have been a problem for 5+ years and they haven't been addressed. If your solution to the safety problem is Barry Church and Matt Johnson, all I can do is this: :bang2:

If your solution to the offensive line woes is to sign a guy who isn't a starter in the NFL and another guy who probably wouldn't start on a majority of the teams in the league, all I can do is this: :bang2:

Instead of filling holes that gaping on this team for years, we blew our load on a #2 CB last year and kicked the tires on Abram Elam.

Except those are the most important positions in this scheme. Too many people banking on guys on the wrong side of 30 to stay healthy and productive.

Once Romo's deal is done the guys we should at least kick the tires on for the cheap should be; Osi Umenyoria, Sedrick Ellis, Alan Branch, Justin Durant, Mike Jenkins, Ronde Barber and Michael Huff. On the offensive side Eric Winston and Matt Slauson are the only two targets I think we need to look in to there just let the draft fill out the rest.
