I must admit I really liked what I saw with the 4-3 DL. Bowen, Hoyte, Hatcher, and you could really see how much those guys helped Ware get some sacks.

Thing that puzzles me is why were we dropping our LB's so deep?

Article that Adam posted where Lions commented on how they exploited us was very telling.

Even though we lost I saw some positives from the 4-3.

How do we fix this guys?

I agree about the LB's, and I do NOT understand our defensive strategy at ALL.

Shouldn't we be in the nickel in that scenario?

One thing I think is for sure our CB's need to be assigned a guy the whole game and play man coverage. Teams are confusing our Zones and making us look silly.

Newman should of been on Williams the whole game.

We are giving teams mismatches at the LOS.

I mean Roy vs Glenn??? Then he scores and I see the same alignment 3 more times after the fact jeeeez

does our defense suck, cause ellis is not playing or no?

He was critical for the 3-4 and we have missed him dearly. I thought we would be better but boy was I wrong.

No question but that we're not adjusting well during the game, but I don't know if we COULD go man with our corners. I'm afraid they're just too slow. We could pull off zone if our guys - including our LB's - were faster (or maybe "quicker" is the word) because we seem to lose WR's in the white spaces.

The 4-3 is a joke. We basically gave up 36 points on defense, to the freaking Lions and Kitna threw at will against us with backup O-Linemen and a 3rd string RB. And in the second half, we hardly had any pressure on Kitna and if we got a sack it was mostly a cover sack.

The thing is about the LB's is it's mostly Bradie James. Watch the game over again and most of the targets are Bradie's responsibility. And for every game they drop too far back in coverage, they wind up having a game where they don't drop far back enough.

If I had it my way, we'd be able to have a defense that would run mostly 3-4, some 4-3, and then the rest in the nickel. With our defense, James is mostly responsible for the short passes and he's probably the worst MLB/ILB in the game at it. Getting that straightened out will help out a lot. But we've got do so many fundamental things better....like disguising blitzes, occasionally stunting, occasionally zone blitzing, etc. We could also use a solid cover FS to backup Watkins and then put in at SS in the nickel. That could move Roy to LB in the nickel and we'd be much faster and a better cover team in the nickel, plus Roy blitzes better than James.

Essentially, while it's not all completely Zimmer's fault...he doesn't know how to coordinate a good pass rush and we are so simplistic to figure out on defense, we wind up making life too easy for opposing offenses.

You have to admit though we got some good pressure on the QB in the 4-3.

Do we have someone else that would do a better job??

Against the worst O-line in the business. Kitna is the most sacked QB this year.

True but compared to the 3-4 it was better. We didn't even come close in the 3-4.

I would bench James tomorrow if I ran the team.

No Cowboy is playing worse right now.

Amen. When was the last fumble he forced? When is the last negative play behind the LOS? He just may be the worst ILB in the NFL.

After watching the entire season, I'm convinced that Bill's size over speed therory is outdated. We aren't overpowering anyone, I thought this was suppose to be the style of the 3-4 defense. It's not working, we are getting exploited every week.
