Hoping the d line is better but we're relying on hurt people and rookies that's not the best plan. But it's all Dallas could do. I really don't think Melton will be good to go by the start of the season.

He's expected to be ready for camp.

Gardner is a difficult player to project. He was best as an inside type rusher in college. He weighed 262 at his Pro Day which is obviously small for a DT; however, my guess is that he lost weight for the combine. I think he probably played in the 270 range. That would be big enough to be Nickel pass rushing DT.

He might be able to play in SPs. He could surprise but his short arms are a concern. Very unsure about this player.

I think he's more suited for the SDE. He's not going to get run on like Selvie. But you're right he's not going to be like Ware was or hopefully like Lawrence. But he has a great bull rush and a good swim move. Think Spencer but stronger and not quite as fast. He will get snaps inside as will Bass.

On the Break he was saying that he felt LDE was his best position.

My guy to watch this offseason is Bishop. Have him smash into some centers.

I'm anxious to see Bishop against NFL players.

As you probably remember, he was my #2 pet cat in the entire draft. Billy Turner was #1 and Trai Turner was #3.

Then he considers himself a SDE as well. He'll get to rush the passer this year. The team likes both Bass and Crawford.

I am the first to admit you turned me onto him. It's all good.

On Talking Cowboys yesterday they were mentioning that McClain and Gardner were looking good, but they were rather speechless concerning Mincey. Could take that to mean he has not really distinguished himself.

Depth. McClain has looked a lot better than Mincey, from what I read. And that's fine if Mincey is unspectacular, as long as he's better than Nick Hayden.

I also think all the draft picks on the DL make the team. I think we're going to roll with Lawrence, Mincey, McClain, Melton, Bishop, Gardner, Bass, Crawford, and maybe Selvie and one more.

I think we want to go into this season with a bunch of young, athletic bodies who can get in the backfield in a hurry. I think Hayden is toast.

I think you are getting Mincey and Melton (or Okoye?) mixed up Cas. Mincey is an end.

Perhaps I am. Too many "M" names haha.

I think Okoye makes the team as well. Mincey might be the odd man out from that list I just gave, unless we go really long on the DL.

My guess:

DE
Crawford (DT in the Nickel)
Lawrence
Mincey*
Selvie

DT
Melton
McClain
Bishop*
Coleman*

2 from this list:
Gardner
Rayford*
Wilson*
Bass
Hayden*

PUP:
Spencer
Okoye*
Whaley*

I like your list and agree. In your 2 from this list, I'm thinking Bass is in and either Gardner or Wilson. Would really like Wilson to show something, But since Gardner is younger I'd choose him. Don't think all 3 make it. Rayford long shot but if healthy and has good off season at age 28 he could be in his prime. Someone has to replace Hayden.

There are generally 25 on O and D with 3 designated STs players.

They will keep 5 CBs and 4 Safeties, 6 LBs and 9 DL. 8 DL is the bare minimum IMO. They will go long where they have the most talent or need to protect a player they want from waivers.

I really have no idea about Bass. He just has not been on the field enough. Also, he's probably not a good bet to stay healthy throughout training camp. He's been injured about as much as Matt Johnson.

Wilson is one of the few that fits the profile of a Right or Weak-Side DE in this scheme.

I will be interesting to see Rayford get a full preseason with the team. He has interesting physical ability.

McClain should be the starter at the 1-tech which is where Hayden played last season. Ken Bishop and/or Devon Coleman need to beat him out for the backup 1-tech job.

Honestly I want the meanest most hungry players. I hope Marinelli is making it clear that the jobs are all open. There is not a single incumbent returning that I think should feel safe. Although I feel pretty secure in saying that Selvie and Mincey have already signed their scholarship papers for the year.

If all these starters and rotational guys can get anywhere from 3-5+ sacks each for the season we may have something special.

I'm hoping 6+ from the guys with real "Potential" but if we can get a decent average going and tons of pressure and hurries we can stop a few teams, maybe help the secondary get a few picks...
