DeForest Buckner, DE the forgotten guy

Buckner carries his 290 pounds well, sporting broad shoulders, long arms and no extra weight around the middle. Though quick enough to get tackles turning as a pass rusher, his game is based on power, not speed. Buckner has a powerful bull rush to knock tackles onto their heels and uses his long arms to lasso ballcarriers as they attempt to run by.

Buckner might have been drafted ahead of teammate Arik Armstead (selected 17th overall in the 2015 draft) if he had come out after last season, but going back to Oregon will almost certainly elevate his draft stock. Buckner can play in either a 4-3 or 3-4 as a defensive end. Offensive lines knew where he was at all times and forced him to earn his sacks and pressures, but his tape shows an impressive spin move and arm-over that he already uses effectively as a pass rusher. With the size and strength to control the line of scrimmage and alter running games, Buckner should give Pac-12 offensive linemen the blues this season.

Wanted to like him but I don't agree with this 'controls the line of scrimmage' bit from what I've seen. He gets knocked around and folded up pretty routinely. Plays tall. Late to see things develop. Nice tools and length, but not a good football player yet.

I'm sure he'll go pretty high but unclear he'd even be on Dallas' board. Not a DE for us. Don't think he's what Rod looks for as a DT.

The problem with these massive guys is they hit the NFL and do not have leverage. Smaller, stronger guys move them around.
It is rare to see one of these long guys really succeed.

I think Forest is a pure 3-4 DE. And not a JJ Watt version.

To me he lacks pure pass rush skill to be a 3T. Or anchor to be a 1T.

I see a pure 3-4 DE as well. He should have came out last year. I think his stock has went down, not up.
