Deji Olatoye gets start for Cowboys, a telling sign on Byron Jones
http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...e-gets-start-cowboys-telling-sign-byron-jones

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The Cowboys provided another indication Sunday of where they plan to play first-round pick Byron Jones next season.

Jones started at safety despite cornerback Morris Claiborne being inactive with a hamstring injury. A week ago, Jones started at cornerback with Claiborne out and gave up a 43-yard pass in the final minute that set up the Jets' game-winning field goal. Jones said after the game he should have been playing off instead of being in press coverage.

With Jones at safety, the Cowboys started undrafted rookie Deji Olatoye at cornerback in place of Claiborne.

Olatoye came up with a big play in the final seconds of the second quarter. The Bills had third-and-2 from the Dallas 5, and quarterback Tyrod Taylor lobbed a pass to the right corner of the end zone.

"Any time you get a takeaway it's a big thing," Olatoye said. "It's really an honor. I just made the play when it came toward me."...

I wouldn't mind Byron Jones as our FS next year. Especially if we can get a solid CB in the draft, which from the looks of this draft class, we should be able to. Lots of CB depth in this years draft class. Can get a decent guy as late as the 3rd round, depending on what you're asking him to do (press, man, zone, etc).

More of a telling sign for Claiborne and our scrub DB coach. I rewatched the game earlier today @Zordon Peep Olatoye's footwork on the redzone interception. Bad throw or not, it was absolutely flawless technique and its what I've been dying to see from our corners every week the last 2-3 years. Let Claiborne or Carr have been in on it I guarantee their head never gets turned around to make the play.

FS is where Jones needs to be, glad they are finally recognizing what us fans have been saying for 1/2 a season now.

I believe that was the plan all along eventually, but they wanted to see how it all played out. They planned to play him where needed this year, but ultimately wanted him to end up at FS nest year.

Stephen and Jason said this last spring right after the draft. And avian during TC.

If Byron Jones is making the permanent move to FS, I'd like to start seeing more splash plays. On the season Jones has:

0 interceptions
0 sacks
0 forced fumbles
0 fumble recovers
8 passes defensed (0 over the past 4 games).

I think he has the potential to be a very good FS -- he has all the physical attributes you want for the position, however, he cannot become the <next> Cowboys CB who is allergic to turnovers.

I'm not sold on this kid at all. He has the physical attributes but he's incredibly soft. He reminds me of BW Webb after drinking 10 red bulls.

These young CBs have done a good job thus far. Jones will make his home at FS where he belongs.

I haven't seen anything that makes me think he is "soft".

My main concern is Jones has yet to display much ball awareness in his 1st year and very often ball awareness, especially for a DB, is something that some guys have and some guys just don't.

I think Jones still has the potential to be a top echelon FS because he is such a phenomenal athlete, however, those ball skills will need to improve if he is going to be truly elite.

For sure...and I'm really sure that our local gang bangers are in line for councilmen positions also...in just a year or two.

Watch him tackle PK. Too much grabbing, waiting for contact....he doesn't form tackle. Night and day compared to the Packers secondary.

Awareness goes way up when you can see your assignment and the qb at the same time. He's going to be fine. 24 was the flop.

Give our coaches an offseason and watch them undo Olatoye's flawless technique.
