I like Murray. He gets the tough yards and is always an option for Romo out of the backfield. He seems like a really smart guy that plays hard and wants to win. He was ranked 10th last year in rushing behind some stellar backs. He even had the highest ypc, I think. Is Murray an elite back, top five, about to break out or has he hit his ceiling. I think our line is good enough to produce a top five back, yes I said that, but I don't think Murray can do it. I think his upright running style and overall build are waiting for "another" injury to happen. I think we have seen about all we are going to see with Murray. He's as good as he's going to be, which is good enough, don't get me wrong. He just can't stay healthy and doesn't have the speed or quickness to move up to the top five. He just doesn't fit the mold of a quick low pad level runner like Morris, or McCoy, and doesn't have the speed of Peterson or Johnson. I'm no psychic and don't pretend to be but many analysts think Murray is an elite back and he's not. He's a very good starter when healthy but not elite..Just my opinion by the way...

Those are good points (running upright style) but he has never been given the opportunity (when healthy...GB game makes me ill right now). How do we really know @ this point? I agree about riding him this season esp considering his contract status. If JG rode him last year, we make the playoffs. EASY. Let's forget about numbnuts and think how to "improve" this situation.

Its just my gut feeling really. I really like the guy but it seems some are expecting too much........As for Randall, how did he make it into the pro's? Another gut feeling.

DM is not the saving grace or Emmitt reincarnated by any means. We all know what we witnessed (high YPA in specific games) that make you wonder about the direction of this ship? What/who are you trying to prove JG? Get over it, and take this team to some wins. Murray is replaceable with this scheme, but he is a talent wasted (when healthy).

I hate to reiterate it bc it is tacky, but we make the playoffs last year(EASY) if we relied on his potential. How many 3rd and shorts were crossing patterns to Witten for 0 yards? We know, and it sucked (esp on our end of the field) 3rd and 3 @ the opp 42? Punt time=to the worst D the league has seen? This guy gets another yearo_O God forbid he grow a pair, we all know they are gone at this point;)

You can make an argument he belongs at the bottom of a top 10 list but no way should he be in anyone's top 5.

To Murray's credit, he should be used differently, not like last year when he would be tearing it up and then Garrett would basically take the ball from him and start passing? He doesn't have the luxury of decent play calling where he can carry the load and help win a game.

Off the top of my head, there's 5 RBs that are without a doubt better.

Jamaal Charles
Adrian Peterson
LeSean MCCoy
Marshawn Lynch
Matt Forte

I'd probably rank Murray around 6-8, he's not elite but he's a very solid RB.

Jamaal Charles is glass, though.

I'll add to the list:

Alfred Morris
Arian Foster
Ray Rice
CJ Spiller
Frank Gore

It's not just Garrett that takes the ball out of Murray's hands, Romo does as well. Romo never audibles into a running play. The offensive brain trust from the HC to the QB has very little patience with our run game and really hasn't shown that they know how to use it effectively. I don't know how many other teams respect our ability to run the ball especially since our own team doesn't seem to either. We have finally started to put an OL together that can push a pile and open some seams, reward those guys and let them use some of that muscle. Murray may not be an "elite" RB, but easily could be a Top 10 RB and could be a bigger weapon in this offense if used effectively.

Can Murray please be made of the same glass Charles is then, because he's simply ... Amazing. Also, Jamaal isn't injury prone at all, he's only missed one or more games in a season once in his career, and that was due to a freak injury. I'm sure you were being sarcastic though. :p

Murray is a hard one to measure because we can never get a full season of work from him.
But 2-3 years in a row of 2013 type numbers, and you may consider him maybe top 10-12 or so.

I think he's a good back, just not reliable.

I'd probably have Murray 10-12 and I wouldn't even consider resigning him.

That is because you are locked into binary yes or no thinking. If he were to sign for the vet min would you take him? If not that is all that is needed to know about your acumen.

Top 5? No. Top 10? Maybe. I'd resign him but to a cap friendly deal. And I would also add a vet RB to help limit Murray's carries some to keep him healthy and work Randal into some carries also.

LOL Murray not a top 10 RB.... Spiller? Really? Gore is in a run first offense with a better oline, and just 7 more yards on 60 more carries. He is injury prone and dallas is a past 1st and 2nd offense, if we were even close to balance and he could stay healthy he would be at the top of the league in rushing. But hey just my opinion

I would take Murray over McCoy (no power just a speed back), Forte and Charles.

When given the ball Murray is a beast. Runs hard, good hands, good blocker and most importantly plays with a chip on his shoulder. Our team is totally different when he plays.

Yes he can be injured but when he is healthy he has proven to be a back we can hook the wagon too. His big limitation has been a poor OL until this last year and piss poor play calling.

Needs to protect the ball better.
