Paying Murray that much would have been dumb at his age. He's having two really good years behind the best two offensive lines in football, but he does not have the dynamic ability of a guy like Elliott. You pay for special, and Murray isn't special.

Dez isn't that special either but we are paying him big time money. I am speaking more on Murray vs Dez. Obviously if we sign Murray at the time, Elliot isn't even on our radar and who knows how things are these days. Obviously I would rather have Elliot than Murray now but back then, Elliot was still in college.

He is the # 2 RB right now, what does he have to do ??
I like elliot, but was also a murray fan, I am glad we have a good young RB, so no longer worry about we should have kept him.
I still like to follow him though.

I'm an OU fan, so I've seen every carry of his since he was a freshman. He was supposed to be the next AP. Built the same, similar measureables, good player.

But he never was AP, and when he hit the pros, he lost a step pretty early on. I love his attitude and toughness, but he's still just not a $6 million guy. He's getting a ton of carries, and he's doing well, but he's nowhere in Elliott's stratosphere.

Paying Zeke almost as much as whom? Zeke makes nowhere near what Murray and Dez are bringing in right now.
Zeke is making 4/26m, that is 6.5m a year
DMurray signed 5/40m, that is 8m...he took a little less to go to TENN 4/25m
If we activate EE's 5th year it will be for around 9m so that brings it to 5/35m

that is very similar to DMurray

He broke every Cowboy record and was outstanding here and at OU..... he will never get his just due but he is a very good RB

he and ee have about the same carries, and we have the better OL, and he is 50 yards behind ee, so he is close to elliot right now.

yeah he still has them too, elliot might be breaking some of them.
I argued about not worth the money etc, but it isnt worth it, I thought he was, all that was really required was the 20 mil G
if you think about it, and if you want out of that, do what the eagles did.
EE got 26 G which actually makes him cost more in G money than murray .

Not only did the Eagles get out of it, they got draft picks back

EE will eventually cost 6/45m if we have to Franchise him....still worth it

yeah bottom line is to have a very good RB like we needed, we had to PAY FOR IT !
They went cheap and 2015 happened, so they did the right thing getting elliot at 4.

Look at the crappy run defenses the Titans have played. Other than the Vikings, it's a bunch of pushovers.

Murray had 42 yards against the Vikings. Then he played a bunch of junky run defenses. Indy, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Detroit, Oakland, Houston, and Miami.

Elliott has faced the Giants, Bengals, Packers, Eagles, Commanders, 49ers, and Bears.

Night and day. And Elliott is still averaging more per carry.

I'll happy with the younger guy who we haven't seen the best of.

Good for Murray though.

Eagles got too cute this year. With the change to a more traditional offense, Murray would have been a great back for them, easing the pressure off Wentz. They should have kept him.
Right now, it is true. However, it made sense to keep Matthews because he did have a better year than Murray, cheaper, and was in a similar system in San Diego.

Current standings after week 11
Rushing Yards Leaders - All Players
RK PLAYER TEAM ATT YDS YDS/A LONG 20+ TD YDS/G FUM 1DN
1 Ezekiel Elliott, RB DAL 223 1,102 4.9 60 8 9 110.2 3 64
2 DeMarco Murray, RB TEN 212 1,000 4.7 75 4 8 90.9 2 46
3 David Johnson, RB ARI 197 863 4.4 58 5 10 86.3 2 45
4 Melvin Gordon, RB SD 217 838 3.9 48 6 9 83.8 2 48
5 Lamar Miller, RB HOU 192 824 4.3 45 4 3 82.4 1 38
6 LeGarrette Blount, RB NE 201 802 4.0 44 5 12 80.2 2 45
Jay Ajayi, RB MIA 143 802 5.6 62 9 6 89.1 2 39

Murray should get 1400 to 1600 yds
Elliot should get 1600 to 1800, so he could with some good games get the dickerson record.

Murray is doing good, only got 21 carries this last game for 3.3 avg. if not for Elliot he would have been # 1 back again.
Murray has thrown a td pass though lol Elliot has not done that yet.

I also am a big Murray fan, was ecstatic Dallas drafted him, predicted he would be the steal of that draft.

But like you I noticed he never seemed to have that breakaway speed in the pros. Even LB'ers could catch him from behind. Every time he broke into the secondary we'd see him either suddenly drop on his own or get caught.

We've already seen several times what happens when Elliott breaks through into the secondary: NOBODY catches him.

Murray had a 75 yard TD this season.
I just saw that earlier, he broke thru the line, and it was wide open, and he had the speed to take it all the way.
Something his detractors said he didnt have anymore.
