DeMarco Murray's Vision Still Bothers Me

Forget stats and that he's the league's leading rusher (which is hard, I know), his vision still bothers me. I think it's no coincidence that Randle comes in and looks just as good. Here's one of MANY different All-22 shots in which I have no idea what Murray is looking at. Murray runs to the right of Clutts and runs out of bounds for a short gain:

Was that one of those tired runs at the end? The other one he lost 15 yards, they should have been Randle carries.

I have no problem with Murrays vidion.

There's no doubt that many of Murray's 20-yard runs, Adrian Peterson would have gone 80.

Murray is a complete back in many ways, but he lacks the home run ball and he suffers from Herschel vision from time to time.

Agree with NeonDeion21....I say it all the time as I watch games or discuss him. His vision is questionable to me as well. I have never seen a quality back like Murray run up his blockers back in the open field as much as he does.

I see the same thing you see . As good as he's been , he's left a ton of yards and big runs on the field .

I think our usage of Murray now is a sign that we won't be offering him big money next year. Not with the direction the league is going

It's very possible that whoever Free is blocking there could have just tackled Murray for minimal gain, it looks like Free is dangerously close to holding the guy who is cutting across his face to get at Murray. Murray was probably trying to avoid that with the hopes of breaking one for a much bigger gain.

Or at least that's what I can see from that one still shot of the play.

I've been one of Murray's biggest critics because he leaves yards on the field due to lack of burst and elite speed. However, I wouldn't go on complaining about his vision based on a few runs out of a few hundred attempts. Hard to argue his vision with his production while healthy and his YPC.

To tell you the truth, Romo's vision bothers me more than Murray's.

Yes it looks like the guy Free is about to hold would have made the tackle for short gain or lose. We need a video to really tell.

[From NFL Breakdowns]

Although, Murray, had a great game statistically, there were times I felt like Murray prematurely cut due to impatience or simply chose the wrong hole. This happened in plays 3, 12, and 28.

Play 3:
SeparateFlickeringAdmiralbutterfly.gif

Murray is in offset-I formation with TE82 Witten on the right side of the line. In this play, Murray patiently follows his blockers on the stretch play to the right and sees a wide open hole between Witten and the FB44 Clutts, but chooses not to take it. I don’t understand Murray’s thought process here. WR88 Bryant (off-screen) is blocking the edge and all Murray would have to do is cut through this hole and out run the safety for a large gain on the play. Very dissapointing result.

I find this thread annoying. Way to cherry pick one play out of a thousand. For every one of these, I'll bet there are five to ten that would leave you saying "how did he see that hole?" The funny thing is, I remember this exact play because I also noticed he missed that hole and how rare it was for him to do so.

Only thing I can think of is that he maybe thought Free's block wouldn't hold. Weak argument I know but no idea.

That said, this is a bit of a cherry pick. No RB gets it right every single time. Murray's strength is not his vision that's for sure, but I dunno if I call it his weakness either.

I think as much as the cowboys like Murray they are not going to break the bank on him and I don't think its a bad idea. he has greatly benefited from the game plan, commitment to run and a great OL. He leads the league in yards before being touched. the NFL analysts which I don't like in general were harping on him and his lack of vision and leaving yards on the field.

I think Jerry will assess the impact to team's image if he pursues AP, and another player that might be a stop gap for a couple of years is marshawn lynch that may demand a smaller salary and less years on a contract.

he is having a magical season, he will get some offers, but I wouldn't break the bank on him.

SO wait. When he runs.....he's suppose to break 80 yards every time and suppose to hit every hole you see from television? I just don't agree with that line of thinking.

No, but other backs could score on plays that he doesn't. That just leaves more yards to execute and more things that can go wrong on a drive.

Murray is a terrific back from a complete standpoint, but he's not a home-run hitter.
