I don’t know how many fans have seen what the NFL is allowing regarding “opt out” players. The NFL and the NFLPA made an agreement a few weeks ago that allows any NFL player to choose not play this season based on pre-determined conditions. Those players choosing to opt out for the season who are under contract will be paid a one time stipend between $150,000 and 350,000 depending on veteran status.
Players have to decide before an upcoming deadline if they choose to opt out. Currently, there are nearly 30 players across the league that have chosen to avoid the season, including two spare backup players from the Cowboys, Maurice Canady and Stephen Guidry.
Veteran Players opting out for health reasons must qualify based on current/prior health conditions such as cancer, sickle cell anemia, type 1 and 2 diabetes, asthma, Kidney disease, etc. Qualifications can also include those with immediate family members with these conditions.
