Started at the Left DE spot all year and only have 3 sacks smh. My not give someone else a chance or atleast more subs. I would like the see us move hardy to the strong side. (He is bigger and stronger and will go against less talented Right Tackles). We need to do something to shake up this defense.

I have lost any confidence in Demarcus Lawrence as the pass rusher we hoped he would be.

He did switch sides this year and it's possible that he would be more productive being moved. I just don't see him being productive enough to be anything more than a second tier pass rusher.

Just out of curiosity has anyone compared his numbers to say Anthony spencer? Is he on pace for that type of career?

I think you're correct that the RDE spot has less responsibilities in the run game then the LDE does in this scheme. 3 isn't a good total, but Lawrence hasn't been entirely invisible this year either. So far seems like a a developing left end.

Another draft pick we trade up to get that has been non existent ala Claiborne a few years ago. Giving up these early draft picks for these guys who aren't worth it hinder our ability to grow for the future.

Actually Spence record some sacks here and there along with some tfl. But with lawerance I only recall 2 spash plays. A partial sack and a TFL.

Lawrence is developing nicely, see alot of promis in both he and Gregory,I think the problem lies in scheme.put them 2 on the panthers, phins, bikes or numerous other rosters and there. Numbers would be alot higher.or maybe the problem lies in the fact that they all have 2 very good dt's.id like to find out if it is that by drafting a dt like nkemdice to line up alongside tc

While Marinelli was DC with the Bears in 2012...Israel Idonije and Corey Wootton each started games at LDE & moved inside occasionally. Idonije had 7.5 sacks & Wootton had 7 sacks (a career mark that he's never eclipsed).

George Selvie had a similar 1st season in Dallas with Marinelli as his DL coach, starting 16 games at LDE and notching 7 sacks (his career best by far).

So in 2012 & 2013, Marinelli was able to coax career years out of 3 journeymen players...and all 3 played a good deal of time at LDE and in the same scheme.

Not giving up hope with D-Law by any means, as he's young & it's too early given this is his first full season...but would like to see more from him in the not too distant future.

Pass rushers take time to develop. Greg Hardy had 4 sacks during his second season. Not saying Lawrence will become a top tier pass rusher, but I'm hoping he can develop into a player similar to Greg Ellis as his body matures and he gets accustomed to a new position. If he reaches that level, that's not bad for a second round pick.

Lawrence never struck me as a huge sack # DE. So maybe some fans' expectations of him weren't realistic. At his peak, IMO he projects to be an athletic run defender who will get you 7-8 sacks.

Gregory is the guy who we need to develop into that 12-15 sack DE.

Spencer was a run stopper and put pressure on the QB. And he has the excuse of injuries. During stretches of Wade's tenure, he played lights out. One year with Ryan he was the best player on defense.

Lawrence just gets stone-walled.

That being said, the conservative approach on defense isn't helping...
