Cowboys under Mike McCarthy went 12-5 and playoffs bound three years in a row (2021 - 2023). Yes, they missed the playoffs in 2024, but Dak and half of the badly depleted team were injured for most of the season in 2024 as well.

Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer (1st year as head coach in 2025) has drastically gone backwards. Currently, the Cowboys are 6-6-1 under Schotty, even though Cowboys offense and defense (mid-season) has been improved player personnel-wise in 2025 compared to 2024. Schotty has proven he is a pretty good O-Coordinator (offense ranks in the Top 5 in several categories), but he's not ready to be a head coach who can push his coaching personnel to be able to better use more talented players or build them into becoming a playoff-ready team. Schotty is another Garrett: buddy-buddy with the players.

Matt Eberflus has to go. He and his zone scheme is for the birds. Horrible hire who has contributed to most losses, drastically degraded the Cowboys defense to amongst the worst in the NFL, and stubbornly refused to play to the players best man-to-man abilities. Eberflus was simply a bad hire who has most likely cost this team a chance to reach the playoffs, his defensive strategy has tragically made this Cowboys defense worse, and he simply needs to go.

Al Harris was the Cowboys D-Secondary Backs coach from 2020 - 2024. Known for developing Pro Bowl talent like Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, and is now the Defensive Passing Game Coordinator and DB Coach for the Chicago Bears (2025-present) under new coach Ben Johnson. His Cowboys D-Secondary was constantly ranked 21st (2020), 10th (2021), 16th (2022), 5th -10th in different metrics (2023) and 15th - 19th due to injuries to key players (2024), overall Al Harris' D-Secondary was drastically improved in pass coverage under him compared to his predecessors even the those defenses overall struggled against the run.

In comparison, the Cowboys D-Secondary in 2025 ranks at best at 24th and amongst the worst in the NFL due to key player injuries and new but worse defensive coaches.

Matt Eberflus needs to go immediately, and so do some of his assistant coaches, especially at LB and the D-Secondary.

If the Cowboys get playoffs eliminated sometime during these last 4 remaining games in what has been a badly coached team in 2025, Jerry would be wise to bring back what coaches had the Cowboys performing better and consistently making the playoffs. Not all current coaches are losses. Bring back Mike McCarthy as head coach (2 - 3 year new contract), bring back Al Harris and move him to D-Coordinator/D-Secondary Asst, demote Brian Schottenheimer from head coach to O-Coordinator (he's not ready to be a head coach, could learn some more under McCarthy, and remain in Dallas where he could keep honing his skills with Dak during his current prime years), fire Matt Eberflus immediately as soon as this season ends, fire his LBs and Secondary coaches, ReHire Al Harris and some better positional coaches. Oooh, also immediately fire the Special Teams coach and bring in someone much more better, creative, innovative but disciplined if we want a much better performing and playoffs capable Dallas Cowboys team in 2026+.

**Mods, could one of you add a comma (,) in the thread title after "H.C." and before "Fire Eberflus"?

Thank you.

I still say McCarthy was a good coach who knew what he was doing, but what you're describing never happens and won't happen here either.

Dak loves Schotty, and that's a big reason he was hired and probably will stay the next few years until Dak is done. Best we can hope for in the meantime is that Jerry will at least get a new DC, preferably one Schottenheimer wants.

I think Mike just got lazy his last year and knew he could not overcome the lack of talent

A month ago members were singing Shotty's praises

I have no interest in returning to McCarthy.

There wa little energy or excitement about teams and that’s what I think an head coach needs in the modern NFL. He felt like an throwback. Players didn’t respond to him and none of his coaches went on to do great work elsewhere despite him being a head coach for 15 years.

McCarthy’s main influence was Marty, so I’d say Bryan has that covered. What else could he learn from McCarthy that he didn’t see when he was a consultant on his staff?

I agree with running Schottenheimer’s offense. Our current offense is now much more varied and unpredictable. What makes you think McCarthy wouldn’t just take us back to our boring offense that had no play action or motion? We’re finally seeing some of the balance that McCarthy always promised but never committed to.

As to Harris, I think it’s clear he’s topped out. We were excited because we had a lot of interceptions when he was here but once he was responsible for more than the DBs, there just didn’t seem to be anything remarkable in his work. He’s basically doing the same job in Chicago as he did here. He’s their “passing game coordinator and DB coach” and he was ou “Assistant HC and DB coach”. The Bears current defense is Dennis Allen. Al is not running the defense.

That was just ten days ago. Fans are fickle.

A three game win streak and posters who had thought he was the worst coach ever started to say “now I’m coming around!”, the OP included.

One loss to Detroit on the road and he’s awful again.
Wrong. I personally didn't trust Schottenheimer, but decided to give him the benefit of the doubt during the Raiders, Eagles, Lions games. Then the real Schottenheimer came back out again. To be honest, I didn't want to upset super fragile posters like you, but at this point after the crap you just said, go to hell. I'm going to say what I honestly feel and see whether it bothers you or not. Grow a tougher spine.

Funny how you make another angry post like this and end it by telling someone to grow a tougher spine....

Maybe take your own advice? What he said didn't deserve the kind of post you made, but I guess the real AC is coming out.

Three 12-5 seasons all filled with playoff births... = lazy?

I guess you like a worse record team with no playoffs?
I thought the same when a post above said the team had tuned him out. No one tuned him out last season, he did that himself, probably because he knew he was a lame duck coach.
