Demote Schotty to OC, ReHire McCarthy as HC, Fire Eberflus, ReHire Harris to Asst. Secondary / D-C

I am a moderator. I read practically everyone's conversations between each other every day. You may have never read me occasionally describe CowboysZone as home to the Hatfields and the McCoys...

I have read your comments to him, his comments to you, and viceversa. Y'all are not having conversations through DM's.
Get him a dak doll and he'll settle down for a while. sheesh...

Cowboys under Mike McCarthy went 12-5 and playoffs bound three years in a row (2021 - 2023). Yes, they missed the playoffs in 2024, but Dak and half of the badly depleted team were injured for most of the season in 2024 as well.

Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer (1st year as head coach in 2025) has drastically gone backwards. Currently, the Cowboys are 6-6-1 under Schotty, even though Cowboys offense and defense (mid-season) has been improved player personnel-wise in 2025 compared to 2024. Schotty has proven he is a pretty good O-Coordinator (offense ranks in the Top 5 in several categories), but he's not ready to be a head coach who can push his coaching personnel to be able to better use more talented players or build them into becoming a playoff-ready team. Schotty is another Garrett: buddy-buddy with the players.

Matt Eberflus has to go. He and his zone scheme is for the birds. Horrible hire who has contributed to most losses, drastically degraded the Cowboys defense to amongst the worst in the NFL, and stubbornly refused to play to the players best man-to-man abilities. Eberflus was simply a bad hire who has most likely cost this team a chance to reach the playoffs, his defensive strategy has tragically made this Cowboys defense worse, and he simply needs to go.

Al Harris was the Cowboys D-Secondary Backs coach from 2020 - 2024. Known for developing Pro Bowl talent like Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, and is now the Defensive Passing Game Coordinator and DB Coach for the Chicago Bears (2025-present) under new coach Ben Johnson. His Cowboys D-Secondary was constantly ranked 21st (2020), 10th (2021), 16th (2022), 5th -10th in different metrics (2023) and 15th - 19th due to injuries to key players (2024), overall Al Harris' D-Secondary was drastically improved in pass coverage under him compared to his predecessors even the those defenses overall struggled against the run.

In comparison, the Cowboys D-Secondary in 2025 ranks at best at 24th and amongst the worst in the NFL due to key player injuries and new but worse defensive coaches.

Matt Eberflus needs to go immediately, and so do some of his assistant coaches, especially at LB and the D-Secondary.

If the Cowboys get playoffs eliminated sometime during these last 4 remaining games in what has been a badly coached team in 2025, Jerry would be wise to bring back what coaches had the Cowboys performing better and consistently making the playoffs. Not all current coaches are losses. Bring back Mike McCarthy as head coach (2 - 3 year new contract), bring back Al Harris and move him to D-Coordinator/D-Secondary Asst, demote Brian Schottenheimer from head coach to O-Coordinator (he's not ready to be a head coach, could learn some more under McCarthy, and remain in Dallas where he could keep honing his skills with Dak during his current prime years), fire Matt Eberflus immediately as soon as this season ends, fire his LBs and Secondary coaches, ReHire Al Harris and some better positional coaches. Oooh, also immediately fire the Special Teams coach and bring in someone much more better, creative, innovative but disciplined if we want a much better performing and playoffs capable Dallas Cowboys team in 2026+.

My thoughts? 6:56AM is too early to be this drunk.

McCarthy? Dear God no. Come on man. Did you even watch this team the last few years? You don’t notice an offense that is more difficult to decipher what we are doing? A team that isn’t absolutely moronic with time management? A coach on the sideline who doesn’t look somewhere between confused and disinterested? A coach who might have a clue about when to throw the red flag or not. A coach who understands motion can help the QB read the defense. An offense that defense aren’t just calling out are plays pre-snap? Continued embarrassing playoff disaster performances? I mean what could make you think McCarthy would be anything but a horrible choice. I honestly thought this was a sarcasm post when I read the thread title.

I happen to think Schotty is doing a fine job but even if you don’t, come up with someone who didn’t completely destroy this team over and over if you want to make an argument.

Three 12-5 seasons full of playoff births.

Compared to a 6-6-1 season where 5 of the 6 losses are on the terrible decisions by this new head coach (which he has admitted) and the coaching personnel and their continuously failed schemes they run. Plus, failing badly once again to get 90% of the team to get fired up, show up and play up to par against a tough opponent in Detroit knowing full well it was a must-win game with the playoffs on the line. Schotty has also made lots of bad and costly playcalling decisions, not including poor personnel choices which have hurt (not helped) this offense and defense during those 6 losses.

Yeah, McCarthy had his faults, but you can't take away his and his coaches abilities to get this team to play well enough to go three 12-5 seasons in a row with each having playoff births. Last year (7-10) was excusable since the team lost 1/3rd of its players to free agency, plus almost half of the remaining 2/3rds got injured and missed crucial amount of time during the season, especially our starting QB.

So, yes, I know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Maybe you and all others should swallow your pride and rethink what both head coaches actually achieved with this team so far. I never said to fire Schotty. I said to demote him to O-Coordinator which he could help McCarthy make smarter time management decisions and create more use of motion in the backfield, along with having Dak take snaps from under Center, in order to help confuse the opposing Defense and create better plays for this Offense.

I would prefer MM over Shotty at this point but he couldn’t get it done either. Mike isn’t and shouldn’t come back to this circus. We will never get a Vrabel or someone of the like under current ownership. The best we can hope for is a new DC but I fear that isn’t happening either.

Mike Vrabel was vocally adamant back in early 2024 that he would love to come coach the Cowboys. He said it more than once, yet Jerry and Stephen never seriously considered talking to him. Instead, they went with the totally unproven house puppet. Look at the results (Patriots vs Cowboys) now.

Jerry is an idiot, and people are fools to be supporting this coaching staff's results. Mike Vrabel just took a recent years long bad Patriots franchise (4-13 in 2024), and in less than 1 full season, he has the Patriots tied with the Broncos with the best record (10-2) in the NFL today. But, hey, we are supposed to be happy and grateful for 6-6-1 and most likely out of the playoffs before this season ends? SMH

That's all horse stuff. First off in McCarthy's first year we won 6 games which was worse than the year before. And what about last year's 7 win team? This year we aren't coming off a 12 win season we are coming off a 7 win season - and we had a better record in games Dak didn't start than in games he did last year, so don't play that card. This team's 12 win seasons are history in large part because McCarthy helped tear it down. We were soft and no threat to anyone in the games that mattered and had to completely re-make the team. McCarthy only has an NFL HC resume` because of HOF QBs. Go ask GB people what they think of him as a HC

2020 no playoffs
2021 one and done. Lost as a home favorite
2022 1-1 in playoffs and again beat up and manhandled by SF.
2023 one and done and absolutely B slapped by a 9 win WC GB team at home and sent home embarrassed
2024 no playoffs

I don't know about you, but this is NOT what I am looking for from the Dallas Cowboys
