Wow! I didn't know Thurmann wanted to come here. That really puts me in a bad place with Jerry. I haven't been a basher of Jerrys GM skills but this kind of move speaks loudly about his lack of vision.

Bless you man. I could not find this anywhere.

Sitting down that is Ron Fellows, Dennis Thurman, and Everson "Cubby" Walls

Behind them is Ricky Easmon, Victor Scott and Dextor Clinkscale

Back row is Michael Downs and Bill Bates

I didn't know Ronnie Lott said that about Dennis Thurman. I am going to definately look that up.

Also, I thought I gave you the Thurman's Thieves picture? I will repost it on here, just give me a minute.
Here's the URL to Ronnie's speech.

Here's the comment for Dennis Thurman. 4th paragraph, 2nd line.

To Dennis Thurman, Dennis Thurman you helped me with my skills. You helped me become a better football player.

We need a guy like this coaching the secondary. Once again Jerry is behind the 8 ball when it comes to coaches.

Because he thinks he is the only one that can coach this team.....Jerry has ruined the Cowboys and turned them into a bad circus. He reminds me of KISS in a way, after their heyday in the 70's they kept trying to catch onto the next in vogue music format...going from disco, to pop metal, ballads, even tried a grunge record...all to no avail...Jerry has tried he lackey buddy as coach, tried to save face when he hired an NFL guy in Gailey, then went with the guy he could control (Campo) when he wouldn't get anyone to take the job because he ran the salary cap into the ground, then he hires Parcells and as the team is beginning to take shape, he brings in the circus in TO, Tank, Pacman....then he hires another good ol boy that he can control and we have the current mess...total dysfuntion, no hit singles, no playoff wins, nothing buy disappointment and unfulfilled expectations....

Everson Walls...UDFA

I always thought Walls was a 12th round draft pick...hmmm

I know I may be wrong since I wasn't into the draft back in my young days as I am now.

But he did win Defensive rookie of the year...right?

He was undrafted out of Grambling in 1981.

Yes, he picked off 11 passes in 1981 to win DROY.

He is 10th on the all time list with 57 INTs.

Yep, and he ran Bill Belichick's Defense against the Bills' No Huddle Offense in the Super Bowl.

Everson Walls always said that he would be in the Hall of Fame if The Catch didn't happen.

I wouldn't say behind, but totally out of the loop

Campo is here instead of Thurman because Jerry knows him personally

talk about some guys that knew how to make plays on the football in the air

starting in 1981 here are the number of interceptions we had as a team:

1981: 37 (no, that isnt a type-o)
1982: 15 (strike shortened yr, 9 games)
1983: 27
1984: 28
1985: 33 (yep, 33)

Walls, Downs and Thurman were real ball hawks. Fellows had a knack for the ball too.

Compare that to the years since 2000 (that was Zimmer's first yr as DC, he was DC through 2006)

2000: 16
2001: 9 (not a misprint)
2002: 19
2003: 13
2004: 13
2005: 15
2006: 18
2007: 19
2008: 8 (not a misprint)
2009: NONE

Pretty pitiful.

Take the Ring of Honor for instance. He waited way too long to induct Tex Schramm. .................

Jerry waited too long on Cliff Harris, Rayfield Wright, and Bob Hayes for the ROH too. He's still waiting on Drew Pearson, Ed Jones, Harvey Martin and others. It is wrong and I don't appreciate it at all. Why did Tom Landry wait 5 years but Emmitt had no wait at all?

Given the teams performances in games where players are inducted into the ROH, maybe Jerrah is thinking he can't afford the loss

Thanks for all the input. Very sad that Jerry is so self-defeating, but since the slide began in the late '90's he is the only thing that has remained unchanged. It's got to be him...

If this isn't it, what is it? I think every Cowboy fan is dying to know and I think that's why so many of us are taking the loss to the Gaints so hard. That game was just more of the same and diminshes a fans hopes and expectations. If Dallas had gone 5-11 the last two years, I think many of us would have been disappointed in the loss, but much more optimistic

Somedays I actually wonder if Jerry made a deal with the devil to win the 3rd Super Bowl without Jimmy. In exchange for the win, the Cowboys would never win another Super Bowl as long as Jerry is alive and in the process the devil gets to take glee in torturing us with all manner of losses. Admit it, after the way the ball bounced in the game vs the Giants, you can't help but think crazy thoughts like this.

I've been telling my buddies ever since Switzer was hired that I wish Jerry would just go down on the field and coach the damn team himself. I believe with all my heart that this is what he wants to do but he just doesn't have the balls to do it, so he coaches the team by proxy through his yes men.

I believe he's is just dying to prove everyone wrong and show a Super Bowl can be won his way.

I actually think Jerry coaching the team would be better than the line of undermined, powerless coaches he's marched through here. The buck would stop with him and there'd be no owner to make an end run around the coach to.

I'm not saying it would work, but I can't see it being much worse.

MAYBE if he got it out of his sytem, he might finally realize the importance of the job. On the flip side, maybe we'd all be shocked and he'd be successful and we'd end up with a coach the owner would never let go.

I highly doubt that is it.

Lee Roy Jordan, 10-29-89. Of course we lost that one. It was 1989 we lost all but 1.

Tom Landry, 11-7-93. Beat the Giants 31-9.

Tony Dorsett & Randy White, 10-9-94. Beat the Cardinals 38-3.

Bob Hayes, 9-23-01. Lost to the Chargers.

Tex Schramm, 10-12-03. Beat the Eagles 23-21.

Cliff Harris & Rayfield Wright, 10-10-04. Lost to the Giants.

We all know about the Triplets. It has split both ways on those days.

Maybe because Landry, when Jerra came on board (and thank heavens he did when he did) was a very, very bitter man.
Remember, Landry was the guy who told a broadcaster that he'd be "too busy" to see the first Super Bowl game under Jimma.
Landry would have been a reluctant camper to stick it to Jerra in a public way with body language. And Jerra, whose heart is bigger than his brains*, probably wanted the old man to mellow out in retirement and then they'd play nice. But the old guy went before Jerra and Tom could git along.

In 1985 when they got that nickname it was after Intercepting Joe Theisman 6 times in one game.

If that was the game in which the Texas Stadium crowd serenaded Joe with "Happy Birthday to you" then I was there. Warm night and I was wearing a tie like a throwback to 1961.

I was joking and pulled that out of my rump.

I thought someone had cited where all the recent games where ex players were honored or put in the ROH had resulted in humiliating losses. The only ones that come to mind are the Ravens game, I believe the Commanders game where the triplets were honored, the closing of Texas Stadium and the opening of the new stadium. None of these were ROH ceremonies.

Regardless, it was a feeble attempt on my part to jest
