Denver Post: Cowboys keep Eye On Javon Walker

If the Broncos sign any of their free agents early, a good bet would be safety Hamza Abdullah. The team believes Abdullah can develop into a fine strong safety. . . . Kudos to Broncos defensive end John Engelberger, who played the second half of the season with a separated shoulder. Because Engelberger never missed any time with the nasty injury, his teammates voted him the team's recipient of the Ed Block courage award. . . . Watch for Denver to cut injured linebacker Warrick Holdman before the end of the month. He is due $1.5 million. . . . Broncos whose contracts may be reworked include cornerback Dre Bly. . . . While his first-round status is far from squandered, many scouts don't think Penn State middle linebacker Dan Connor is a top-10 prospect anymore. Connor was not impressive during the Senior Bowl week. . . . There has been speculation Dallas might have an interest in Broncos receiver Javon Walker if he is cut. The Broncos likely will try to trade Walker or cut him. . . . Watch for Michigan quarterback Chad Henne to rise up draft boards while Hawaii's Colt Brennan, a former Colorado walk-on, continues to slip. . . . Virginia defensive end Chris Long, expected to be a top-five pick, has chosen Vann McElroy to be his agent. McElroy and Long's father, Howie, were longtime teammates with the Oakland Raiders. . . . While it appears former University of Colorado assistant Jim Caldwell will replace Tony Dungy as head coach in Indianapolis when Dungy retires, a similar arrangement may be in place in the front office, with Chris Polian set to replace his father, Bill, at some point.

Just remember, Walker was a ProBowler in GB under Ray Sherman.

I know some will complain about his knees but each player needs a mediacl clearance at the end of the season so they can set up surgery if needed!

I'm an athlethic trainer and see this all of the time.

As for him being a cancer, well, that is way over blown. He was a ProBowler for GB, was under paid and wanted a new conract. Lord Farve butts in and Walker is traded.

For what's going on in Denver, Shanahan changes his mind to much. One minute he wants you, the next he doesn't. See runningbacks in Denver. Shanahan has the highest player turnover rate in the NFL.

Just imagine, T.O., Walker, Crayton and Witten! :starspin

I would love to add Javon Walker, as for trade I would not give up a top pick for him but if a later pick can get a deal done then great

Count me in as HELL NO.

no thanks, no way no how.

Not even worth the trouble of the phone call.

Do your work in the draft and find a player or trade for a quality person and quality player like Roy williams if that is a reality as we go forward.

Not one penny should be spent on walker.

I'm leaning strongly towards saying HECK NO, okay now that I've said that let me give my reasoning...

1. Injuries, he can't stay healthy.

2. The guy is always unhappy on a team.

Could not agree more. His own coach, who is apparently trying to deal him, even said that he may need microfracture surgery in 2-4 years. Plus, he'll be 30 in October. No thanks.
I've been hoping we would draft a wr early in the draft for about 10 years now. Please Jerry Jones, make it happen this year.

It all depends on his health and contract.

If he comes relatively cheap.....then bring him in.

If anything, play him in three WR sets.....this would somewhat limit his time on the field helping to keep him fresh.

There is a reason Denver might cut him.

Agreed.

We need youth injection at WR. We have our dependable veteran in TO. I say we get 3 more years out of him... where in that time we bring in some good young WR's.

The implementation of WR's on this team can be a smart, effective one... if Jerry chooses to go that route.

I would take a chance if he is released. Bring him in for a good dont break the back contract, because he does have talent. But I wouldn't sign him to a big money contract. But if he wants TO type money and I would pass.

IMO, the Cowboys could use two more WRs.

... a young guy with big talent (a 1st or 2nd round draft pick) and a vet like Walker could be a great combination - assuming Walker could pass a physical and would not cost too much.

I love his talent. His health scares me. If he passes a tough physical, I would sign him short-term.

Bring Walker in and still draft a guy like Avery in round #2!
