What do the Cowboys have to do to get that pick? It is very low so it's almost like a high 2nd rounder. Do you guys think a package of Ellis and Glover would do it or would Dallas have to throw in a 3rd or 4th round pick?

Jerry said Cowboys have no intention of trading Ellis. Why do you want that pick so badly?

Here we go again. We should keep track of all the stuff we proposing to get for Glover and Ellis. They may have even more value than Rashard Lee -- in our minds.

Because Ellis does not fit our scheme. We need to trade him while we can still get something for him.

He is perfect in our nickle defense. He had 8 sacks last year. Where will you get those sacks from? Then at least you would have to draft a pass rusher with that first round pick. With the risk that he turns out to be Ekubust 2...

When we go to the nickle we could go like this. Lawson, Spears, Canty, Ware. We have to get another pass rushing OLB/DE anway. We might as well use him in the nickle as well. He wouldn't play DE fulltime so it could work to our benefit.

If we would get another pass rusher anyway why not just keep Ellis?

But if you could garentee that we get Lawson and 8 sacks then it would be okay. I just don't like to give up a sure thing.

Ellis has said he doesn't want to be in Dallas next year. He hates the 3/4 and wants to leave.

We need to have some veterans on defense. Ellis is a leader. Also, if Ellis and Glover are on the team come draft day, that means we tendered their bonus or they restructured which tells me they are staying on the team.

Because we would need to trade him and Glover to get the extra passrusher. At like the guy below you said, Ellis doesn't want to play in the 3-4 as a rotational player. If we don't trade him, he will become a problem.

Ellis has always been a team player and leader. I don't think he will become a problem. He knows that if we cut him he will get a big signing bonus somewhere so he's just testing Jerry. I think he will honour his contract if we keep him.

We need one OLB/DE now. If we trade Ellis I say we need two, because a player at that position (like Ware) can't play 100% of the snaps. We need a rotation. And I like Ellis better that Thornton or Fujita.

We would be fine with Ware and Lawson. You can't have a steak at every postion. Ellis is a steak in a 4-3 scheme, but we would be better off letting Spears and Canty start. If you really feel that 2 pass rushing OLBs is not enough, Ellis's freed up cap space would allow us to sign Akin Adoyele. That is three pass rushing linebackers right there.

I like a rotation on the d-line, and so does Parcells.

I don't really know i Adoyele would be as good or better then Ellis, and he would probably cost just as much or more.

We have Ellis on an affordable contract, so why throw out a perfectly good steak..

When a player comes out and complains about his role in the D and suggests that the run D sucked because he was not in the lineup - then he has become a problem.

he complained about playing in a D that was not suited for him last off-season -- then he shut up when he was performing well early on -- then he complained again after he lost playing time. Now he's asking for a raise to stay. I'm not seeing good leadership there or a team guy.

I hate to say this about Ellis but i'm losing some respect for him.

Parcells wants to be able to not have to go to a 4-2-5 to get a pass rush. He wants to be able to go from a 3 to a 4 man line, zone blitz and have that 4th rusher coming from any spot. Ellis does not have that ability.

We got our pass rush with Ware on one side and Ellis on the other and both were playing DE for the most part. To run a true 3-4, you need to be able to bring any of your LBs or drop any of your LBs, Ellis doesn't make that happen.

The only reason to run a 3-4 is to be able to confuse the offense, we ran a vanilla 3-4 on early downs, and went 4-2-5 whenever we faced 3 wide. This defense will not reach the next level if you go half way.

We need to replace Fujita and Shanle as starters. We need a solid, intelligent guy in the middle to take over the calls from James and free him up to use his athletic ability to make plays. We need a playmaker to go opposite Ware.

The best way to do that and fix the OL is to have extra picks and more cap space.

Shanle is a solid Nickel LB / role player who will contribute again.

Fuji may be gone but is a nice depth guy and has a year now in system. We'll probably make a run at John Abraham. Draft we can look at a Lawson, Carpenter.

More pressing need is getting a 2nd stout NT - Ngata or Watson to anchor center of Spears and Canty. Dline rotation will be outstanding.
