I think the biggest issue with drafting WR's, or lack thereof, arose from how well Laurent Robinson did. It's another effect of having a great quarterback.

If they want to avoid the possibility of having some very DOWN years in 2017/2018 they should take the best QB available in the 1st round.

We can all hope Romo plays until he is 40 and never misses a game until then, however, the odds are against it.

You're going to have a first round QB benched, on what is most likely a 4 year contract, for 3 years of that contract? Really?

While Romo is still our QB, you better attempt to build a better team around him to get that Super Bowl. Again, we have bigger needs than QB in the 2016 draft.

I'm sorry, but this would improve absolutely nothing.

We don't touch a QB in the first round in the 2016 draft. We have the RT position that needs addressed, both safety positions, corner, RB...and we're here talking about taking a QB in the first?

Wrong. Romo is 36 next year and has had how many injuries the last few years? If an elite QB is there you take him and dont think twice. Just dont force it if he isnt. I do agree they need all those other positions too but there is no more important position in all of sports than NFL starting QB.

The Cowboys also have to look at the future. Can't just be about right now.

There is no "elite QB" in next year's draft. That is a Luck like talent you are discussing here, there are no QBs coming out of college coming out that is a MUST GRAB. at least for this organization, right now.

Again, while we have Romo, you built a team to win a Super Bowl with him. Grab a QB in the second? Maybe. Third? I'm fine with it. But the first round is too valuable and there are solid prospects coming out at other positions we have a need at.

Not this year. That's a wasted pick. Invest in a very good backup again, like they did with Orton and get your damn scouting department together and really pour over the QB's in the mid rounds.

This, evaluate Cassel in the next few games. If he plays poorly, you dump him and Weeden and pick up a solid FA QB in offseason to put behind Romo.

IF Cassel sucks as well and we have lost too many, why not give Showers a chance?

We have enough talent in the receiving game that doesn't get utilized. Once Dez gets back, the receiving corps will look a lot better. Also, we were best when we weren't launching the ball down the field 80 times a game. We need to find the style of runningback that Murray was. Time to draft a QB and an RB in the near future. Then again, I'm not opposed with going defense again and trying to build a shut out defense. We've invested top picks in the offense over and over and keep coming up short, so maybe it's time to see what happens if we build on the other side of the ball.

Here is the reality.... They drafted Dez 6 years ago in the 2010 draft.

Since then they drafted exactly one guy in round 3 or higher at the WR position -- Williams in 2013. That's it.

It's today's pass happy NFL, I lay fault on the doorstep of the front-office for not doing a better job stocking the WR cupboard.

Elite QBs need WR targets. The Cowboys have loaded up on role/specialist WRs and to a certain extent it has come back to bite them this season.

Here's another disturbing fact.

Other than Romo, how many QB's of any value have been cultivated, developed, or nurtured?

Like Dustin Vaughn? We going to do this all over again?

Showers isn't ready to back up any team.

well in a wasted season, if this turns out to be one, why not get him some experience. Think about it how ready was that 6th round pick and that
FA when Bledsoe went down. I am NOT saying he is Brady or Romo and even remotely comparing them but at some point you have to see what you have. He has mobility and a strong arm, so if he can serve as our backup then that frees us up to draft at other positions, FS, WR, RB ....

False. They wisely invested heavily in the oline and dlines recently and until Romo got hurt it looked to everyone as though they did the right thing. The problem is the entire offense is predicated on guys beating the guy in front of them and not neccesarily scheme to free up receivers. They need to scheme better, regardless of the QB but moreso without Romo.

We talk often how RBs, OL, QB are being exposed but nobody has been more exposed that Dooley (WR coach). There has been zero development across the board from WRs. Most teams do not have a Dez Bryant yet their WR seem to get open. Maybe some of this is on the QB and we will find out soon enough with Cassel starting now. RB and WR should figure high in next draft.

How could you not be impressed?
