I hope the Cowboys sign Derrick Dockery.

The guys a mauler and devastating at the point of attack. He isn't at the same level as Dielman and Steinbach, but should be continue to develop his size could give a bigger upside.

Derrick Dockery is from Garland, Texas and a Longhorn. Any doubt whom he rooted for as a youngster growing up.

I would love Dockery...I am also keeping my eye on his little brother down in Austin to see how he develops as a lineman.

That's interesting both Dockery and Davis are Texas Boys. I sure hope we land one of them. I'm not sold on Proctor, although Parcells like him.

What is the obsession with Texas players?

I'd rather find someone that can play. I could care less where he is from.

I didn't know he has a brother at UT.

My mom has lived in Garland, TX for 7 years and I've seen local highschool football games whenever I am visiting. I never got a chance to see Dockery play at Lakeview High, but he a legend there based on the accomplishments.

I hope he's wants to wear the star.

He can play, but he isn't on the Dielman/Steinbach level neither was Kosier. I 'd like similar production with the chance for a huge upside.

I don't care where players come from either but people like to see home town guys return home.

For a long time it seemed that Dallas stayed away from Texas players. You always want to go with the best player. If the best player is from Texas that is just icing on the cake.

He's the 3rd rated Olineman in Free agency this year. With plenty of cap dollars to throw around by most teams, it's not bad business to hope you can get a "hometown discount"........usually half a million to a million dollars is what determines where a player signs.

Oh, I'm not saying he can't play, but I've seen a lot of comments about potential free agents and the term "he is from Texas" as if that should have any sort of bearing on a free agent or draftee.

As far as the comments about Dallas staying away from Texas players, I don't think they have necessarily stayed away from players with Texas roots (Crayton, Ayodele, Keith Davis, Aaron Glenn, Whitley.....off the top of my head). I do think they have avoided UT, however. I think that is the college that the FO was referring to when they mentioned "country club" colleges.

I'd be very happy if we picked up Derrick Dockery. He would be a tremendous upgrade over Marco Rivera.

He's only 26 years old and has started in every game over the last 4 seasons.

DMN Blog:
Another candidate to replace Rivera
Commanders guard Derrick Dockery is a guy who might be a better fit for the Cowboys than Leonard Davis.

Dockery's agent told the AP that it doesn't look like he'll get a deal done with the Commanders. So a 6-6, 335-pound 26-year-old who has started every game the last four seasons is about to be on the market. He's been a guard his entire NFL career, unlike Davis.

Dockery would make a good homecoming story for us. He went to Garland Lakeview High and Texas before getting drafted by the hated Commanders.

The other thing I don't like about Dockery and Davis is that it is a direct contrast to the type of offensive linemen that the team has been trying to bring in for the last couple of years.

Find a system and stick with it. A mish mash of skill sets along the offensive line never works either.

Very true

In this era of here today, gone tomorrow free agency, thinking the "he's a hometown boy, so we know he's happy to be here" speeches given at press conferences by GM's is pure hyperbole, and thinking otherwise is naive.

How do you figure that?

The Olinemen brought in over last couple of years haven't been geared to a specific blocking scheme. Infact other than Al Johnson most of the Olinemen have been on the legit 300 plus side.

Marco Rivera couldn't play at his normal weight because the back injuries limited his ability to weight train, thus affecting his strenght down the stretch.

Dockery's big and strong and pretty talented. I'd put him above average in all those respects. He doesn't necessarily get out to the next level all that well, and even though he's started on a pretty good line for a long time, I've heard questions about his heart and his focus. I think you need to be very careful about bringing in a guy like that and making him a multi-millionaire. If he comes in and keeps doing what he's been doing in Washington, or even improves somewhat, that's fantastic. But if he comes in, puts on 50 lbs in 1 offseason and dips his H2 in gold, we've got major problems.

Very true. I got the feeling from Commander fans that he was there "Andre Gurode"........huge upside, always seems to play to the downside but gives just enough.

He had a great finish in 2006. Ladells Betts rode Dockery and Randy Thomas's back to a new contract.
