I have been watching video of DB's lately and this guy just keeps popping out to me. Hargreaves is the best and most versatile pure corner in the draft, by far. King is, however, the best zone corner in the draft by just as wide a margin. If we are going to stay in man schemes I don't want him, but if they want to try to give Marinelli the kind of guys he covets, they have to go after this kid. He is aggressive and instinctive and absolutely thrives when he's allowed to play zone and watch the QB.

I know some other have talked about this guy. I just recently started doing my research though.

This team desperately needs another quality corner and the strength of this years draft is secondary.

I agree. I actually think this team needs two. However, I think they need to decide going forward what they want to do schematically and get the right guys in here. Hargreaves and Ramsey (who should stay at safety) can play any scheme. Then there are guys like King who excel in one (Zone in the case of King), but would be exposed if asked to play a lot another.

This team has thrown money and picks at corners without regard for scheme fit for too long. They need to get the right guys. Not just guys.

They need to come away with a starter and nickle or dime if possible.

I've seen some mocks that had him in the 3rd round but I suspect he's going to move up. Really like him. Also, another guy who might be available in the 3rd or 4th round might be Russell, from ND. Before getting suspended for a year and showing some rust this year, some had him as a 2nd maybe late first rounder potential.

But King............ would love to him.

Yeah, Keivarae Russel is a hell of a corner, but he is predominately a man guy. He is someone we should think about if we intend to stay in a man scheme. I just wonder about where his head is at and if he can stay healthy. He is going to have some red flags for sure.

Your point is the same one I tried to make last offseason. We really had no accurate way to forecast which CBs should be prioritized. Scheme wise you would think Marinelli wants zone, but we saw so much man at the end of last season it was hard to predict. Turns out we did play more man this year. Now the question is, is that out of necessity due to personnel or is this what he really wants to run now? I think we could easily see another change in our coverages if Carr and Claiborne are jettisoned. I told someone a few days ago that secondary is going to be a gapping hole that probably needs a good FA brought in and a premium pick thrown at it. We simply can't ignore CBs or the secondary in general this offseason.

He is worth a long look, Vernon Hargreaves III is above him but his only contemporaries IMO are
Jourdan Lewis Mich
Mackenzie Alexander Clemson
Tre'Davious White LSU
rumour has it that not all these other guys will commit to the draft in 2016 and these guys are all great players. Someone in the late first rd is getting a bargain.

I have been big on Hargreaves but he didn't finish the season very strong. I still think he is the best corner, but I want to see his 40 before I deem him worthy of a top 5 pick.

I'm hoping for Janoris Jenkins. Hes already said he wants to test free agency and he would be perfect next to Scandrick. Can play in both man and zone. Only knock is hes 5"10 but we saw 1st hand what can happen when u value size over talent like the Egals did with Maxwell. I'm so happy they wasted so much money on him

Janoris is a much better zone than man corner. He wants to watch the QB. If you put him in man and he has to turn his back he is going to get beat. I love the guy and he's immensely talented. I would love to have him if we are going to go predominately zone.

Oh he is. I didn't mean to imply he wasn't, just that its not his strength and hes definitely better in zone. He is one of, if not the best zone corner in the league when healthy.

I'd love Janoris in this scheme. My new pipe dream is a Janoris + Gipson signing in FA, and a Desmond King in the draft. Allow Jones to play a Woodson type role covering TE or safety. I'm not enamored with SS that can hit hard, I want guys that can cover like Woodson/Harper

Hitting hard is massively overrated in todays NFL anyways. I would rather have a solid tackler who fills the right lane and takes good angles. Wilcox is a hard hitter. He also can't ever hit someone hard because he can't fill the right lane or take good angles to a ball carrier. Besides, a hard hit is more likely to draw a flag than to force a fumble in the NFL as it stands.

See Jalen Ramsey FS/CB/DB Florida state to satisfy your needs. also the LB for the NDame team Jaylon Smith, both excel at coverage and football smarts. Either one of these guys makes us a smarter defensive unit.
