Despite It's Problems - The NFL Is Unbelievable

I know the NFL had it's problems this year and I understand the sentiment that the league is "losing people" with the money grab and Goodell's handling of issues. But--

It's still the best reality show on television and nothing is a close second. It was the highest rated Super Bowl and most watched American television show of all time.

During the regular season many of us had fantasy football teams, some of us laid money on bets, some spent thousands of dollars on tickets and travel and all of us camped out in front of the TV, sometimes all day on Sundays, not to mention the time spent in the CZ.

The playoffs were gut wrenching, maddening, euphoric, unbelievable and incomprehensible. Really, what else in life makes you scream and swear one moment then jump around like a little kid and hug strangers the next. It helped all of us that the Cowboys were in the mix this year and the anticipation for next year will ramp up emotions even more.

There are problems with the National Football League - but you will have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I can't believe it's over - I can't wait for next season.

I agree there is not another sports like football and no league has come close to surpassing the NFL. It has it's warts as most things do but all in all the NFL is great.

I never in my life considered the NFL a "reality" show.

"reality" shows are mock life, scripted, and far from reality at times. the game isn't what it used to be by a long shot. maybe goodell is right, make people pay out the wazoo for it, they'll want it more. even if it's the same thing or less.

glad you had a good time, honestly. but the NFL isn't reality tv.

Well let me qualify it - living in LA and having worked in reality TV and you're right, it is scripted to a point. People are put in specific situations and told to act within those situations. My reference was compared to "scripted" television like CSI where there is a script, structure and acts.

Wrestling is reality TV. Football is sports.

Anyhow - it's semantics and I'm pretty sure you got my point and I'm pretty sure you enjoyed it too.

I agree, I do think the worst enemy of the NFL has been the NFL itself players and owners. I think they continue to try to improve the product that did not need improvement to begin with I also think FA and salary caps have hurt the product, it has helped the players but being one who watched the NFL well before FA I can say teams no longer have the same appeal when as a fan you could watch a group of guys play their entire careers on your team. I can't image having Bob Lilly lost in FA or Randy White or Roger Staubach lost in FA. These men along with a lot of greats played from the beginning to the end of their careers together and that was lost once FA took place

I really wonder if more people are becoming more attracted to the NFL because of the all the controversy and non-football-related stuff than they are because of the game's further-reaching influence...

nope. not a fan of what the NFL has become. if I didn't have friends coming over with pizza, I'd have watched something else. this isn't about poor cowboys we got robbed. those things happen in the nfl and I'm not one to really whine about calls going against us cause we get 'em in our favor also.

not to kill your party of fun, but I really don't care for what the NFL has become.

I just love the sport of Football.

The NFL is interesting because the best football players in the world are playing the game. The organization that is the NFL brings nothing to the experience in my opinion.

The NFL is just a cartel of owners wringing profit from the greatest game ever created. Most of its problems stem from that, in my opinion (e.g., rule changes that favor the offense, attempts to sweep serious problems under the rug, such as the Ray Rice incident, while harshly punishing kids for having pot in their system).

Can't kill my party of fun, it's my party - but I find it strange that you take what I'm assuming is valuable time on a Cowboys message board to lament something you've come to dislike. It seems disingenuous. I also thing that 99% of people here like or love football so why rain on everybody's parade? You could do a final post explaining why you've lost your passion for the NFL, say goodbye and find something else to do.

BTW - I'm not trying to be condescending or a smart *** I just don't understand why you're even here other than to tell us how miserable you are with the NFL.

I feel for all of those "fans" that said they weren't going to watch it for one reason or another... It was a special special battle that was a thrill to watch.
