If DAL is going to take teh full 19.6m cap hit by making a pre-June 1st trade then it better be for a very good one..........like you said multiple picks, one this year and a conditional pick next year

Otherwise I would wait until the season drew near and teams get really desperate like MINN did

Yes, that would be the way to handle it; although I doubt if that happens.

I don't think Jerry will just give him away (cut him) but I do think he'll get something done early to assure Romo the best chance of finding a team and having success.

I'm not concerned about the cap hit. It all hits the cap at some point anyway. My only concern would be if Jerry went crazy and kept Romo at his currently scheduled salary of 14M.

I believe there's potential for a trade with the New York Jets. They need a quarterback, and the Cowboys were clearly interested in defensive end-tackle Sheldon Richardson at the trade deadline last November. Richardson under-performed in 2016 (1.5 sacks), but I can see Rod Marinelli lighting a fire under him.

And Romo could enjoy throwing to Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, too.

Palmer said yesterday he is coming back to Arizona, so scratch them
Kansas City seems to be saying they plan to stay with Smith too. Not sure how definitive that is, but they seem pretty adamant.

I keep coming back to Houston, again and again.

They've got a great defense in place already.

They've got a good running back in Lamar Miller.

A top 10, possibly top 5 receiver in Hopkins, with young talent around him.

An emerging TE in Fiedorowicz.

And an offensive line with some decent pieces in place, including Nick Martin, whose rookie season was lost to injury.

And they have the money right now to afford both the Osweiler mistake and Romo.

The question is, do they want to waste another year with a quarterback that can't take them anywhere? Because they can't keep this talent together forever and the window only stays open so long.

Every time I look at it, they become the clearer and clearer choice in my mind.
Houston is the perfect fit.. other than having to see Romo take those clowns to a SB win while we have to sit and watch.

Minnesota?

Bradford sucks and Bridgewater could be a shell of his former self (which wasn't all that) upon returning in '18. Bradford can be released with no dead cap money if done by early March. Former Cowboys coach Mike Zimmer is HC and might be a year away from the hot seat. Family in nearby Wisconsin. Grew up in NFC North country / Favre fan. Top TE in Rudolph. Good young WR in Diggs. Maybe top RB in Peterson, though it sounds like he's gone. Top D. Not a bad OL if free agents like Kalil come back. NFC North very winnable.

Minus Column
  • No pick in RD1. Makes it less likely they'll give up a day 2 pick in '17.
  • Sunk cost mentality with Bradford.
  • Prior Hershel Walker trade might make them reticent to trade with Dallas again.
  • NFC team

Trades I'd take
  • RD3 this year and conditional in 2018, as high as RD2.
  • Straight up for OLB-Eric Barr
  • Romo and our RD2 for DE-Danielle Hunter.

I think Chicago trades for Garoppolo and takes them off the list.

I'm sticking with my prediction of Jacksonville. Romo gets released post June. Jacksonville is building a pretty good foundation, now has Coughlin calling shots, and has got to be ready to move on from Bortles, no matter what they say. This would allow Tony 2-3 years as starter while they groom someone else. A winnable division, warm weather, no east coast/cold weather situations like NY, Buff, Cle., etc.

"Stays is Dallas" is not being given enough consideration. We are talking about a Jerry Jones adopted son here. Romo will be in the Cowboys Ring of Honor someday so I think he has a great chance of sticking around.

Houston is the prefect team for him to be on the afc is a weak conference and the afc south is a weaker division with there talent on offense and their defense they would be in the top five teams in the afc

We need an outside pass rush much more desperately than we do an inside one. Also, with just one year left on his contract, I'd pass. If he were a DE instead of a DT, he'd be infinitely more tempting. Unfortunately, that's not the case.
