I went back through the game and looked just at Peterman and Petitti and charted their plays. I really wanted to look at these 2 to see what else may be found besides the obvious when watching the game live.
The results really show Pettiti struggled really bad, while Peterman to my suprise played very well. I really liked what I saw from him. I know he was a goat for the false start on the FG attempt, but his play at Guard was a lot better than I thought it was.
With our struggles at RT, I really would like for us to move Larry Allen to RT and see what he has there, and see Peterman against a 1st team defense before the Pre-Season is over.
Break down of Petitti -
-2 complete whiffs and missed man completly.
-Gave up 1/2 sack and Forced Fumble along with Rivera.
-Gave up 4 QB Pressures and granted 2 where on screens, but he let his man their to quick.
- 1 False Start
- Missed block inside and Julius tackled for loss.
- He had 3 decent blocks that could have been better but he got a way with them.
- 4 very good pass protections
-2 really good run blocks
Break down of Peterman
- 1 whiff and went down
- 2 gave up to much penetration. Both times the defender shot the gap between him and the center with an inside angle. Gave up 1 hold, and one tackle for loss in these 2 plays. This seems to be what he needs to work on.
-1 decent run block
-1 decent pass protection
-4 good run blocks
-10 good pass protections
-6 VERY good run blocks
-5 VERY good Pass protections
Overall Petitti looked out of place on the Right side and his footwork was not very good. This is expected though considering he is a rookie, and played on the right side for the first time. I have been pulling for him to start at RT since we drafted him, but he still has a ways to go. At this point I really do not think he should be starting and we need to develop him for next year. I do think he has a bright future, it is just to soon now.
Overall Peterman looked very good IMO. At times he was dominating his man by pushing them 7 yards of the line on one ocasion, and knocking defenders down on other ocassions. He really got good leverage, and when he was square on the defender they had no chance. I really liked what I saw, but want to see him go against 1st teamers.
