Cowboys could have had Calvin Johnson
by Terry Sun Apr 29, 2007 at 03:57:40 PM EDT

Mickey Spags reported that The Lions offered the 2nd pick to the Cowboys for the Cowboys 1st, 2nd and 3rd rd picks AND DeMarcus Ware.

"OK, he said the Cowboys would have to select a "wow" player if they bundled their picks to move way up in the draft. Details, details. They had a chance but the price was far too steep for Calvin Johnson. Detroit wanted to switch spots in the first, then get the Cowboys' second, third and, while no one would mention a name, but process of elimination, DeMarcus Ware since we were told it was a defensive Pro Bowl player.

No way."

Lions are smoking crack. Maybe Ware straight up for the number 2.

But jeez talk about a moronic deal.

I guess the Lions figured if the Cowboys were dumb enough to go for a trade like that...why not try.

BUT that's why teams like the Lions are awful year after year.

Now, think if they had scaled back the trade to the Cowboys first pick this year and their first pick next year...THEN traded this year's pick to the Browns, like the Cowboys did...they'd have three first round picks next year.

They must be smoking something. I would not give them Ware for no reason. He and Spencer are our future. I have also heard rumors that they wanted Witten. I feel the same way about the deal even if it was Witten.

It also could have been Roy Williams. Mick was speculating it was Ware, but Ware would be the one I would want if I were the Lions.

Mickey is making stuff up. In the interview, they did not say pro-bowl defensive player. Jerry said a very good player and for some reason that is what Mick translated.

That would have been the stupidest trade ever. Plus, Jerry never said what picks plus the very good player they would have to give up.

Don't trust the media

The guys on The Ticket said it was Witten yesterday.

Witten was speculation right after the Jerry interview. Then, Mick changed it later to Ware. I guess when he heard "very good player" he thought, must be one of our top 5

Witten is much more likely. Top Pass rushers are GOLD in the NFL and Ware is one of only a handfull of double digit sack guys. He ALONE is just about worth a top 5 #1.

That's a great idea. I might do it. Would Millen have the backing and cajones to do it. I think he'd lose his job.

They wouldn't of made that deal with the Browns, they would of taken Quinn.
